POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Today, our heart is full.
We are proud to share that the fourth cohort of Empowerment Squared’s International Youth Internship Program (IYIP) has safely arrived in Ghana and Liberia.

What began as an idea rooted in possibility has now become a growing movement of young people choosing purpose over comfort and community over convenience.

Over the next three months, these incredible research interns will be living and working alongside local communities:

In Liberia, they will be engaging in community-based research on drug and substance abuse, seeking to understand not just the issue, but the human stories, the systems, and the solutions rooted in community realities.

In Nsawam, Ghana, they will be exploring the impact of rural educational infrastructure on girls’ education and learning outcomes, helping to uncover pathways toward more equitable and accessible education.

This is what global citizenship looks like, not charity, not observation, but relationship, humility, and learning.

These young leaders are not going to “fix” communities, they are going to listen, learn, and walk alongside.

To our interns: Travel safely. Learn deeply. Lead with humility.
To our partners and communities in Ghana and Liberia: Thank you for welcoming our young people into your spaces, your stories, and your lives.
And to everyone who continues to believe in this work, this is the Power of People in action. by @amaharris1122

I created Rhetoric and Reverie because I could no longer ignore the quiet ache I carried since I visited Liberia for the first time in december of 2024.

I grew up knowing that Liberia holds beauty and pain in the same breath. A land of poetry and wounds. Of laughter and loss. Of children who learn resilience far too early and are asked to dream far too quietly.

Rhetoric and Reverie was born from the belief that those children deserve more than survival stories. They deserve beauty. They deserve to see themselves reflected with dignity, curiosity, wonder, and pride. They deserve books that do not only explain where they come from—but remind them that where they come from is worthy.

My upcoming poetry books speak of war, forgiveness, rebuilding, and responsibility. They speak of children selling chips on the roadside, of trash burning in the streets, of communities stitched together by grace rather than wealth. They speak to teens and adults because healing does not end in childhood and neither does accountability.

But my children’s books speak to something just as sacred: the right to innocence, imagination, and joy.

Through stories like Kiki & Flora and Wild & Free, I wanted Liberian children and children in the diaspora to meet their country through wonder first. Through animals, flowers, forests, and friendships. Through kindness, cooperation, and courage. Through stories that say: you belong here, and this land belongs to you too.

This is not a trend.
This is not a moment.
This is not charity for show.

This is long work. Quiet work. Rooted work.

This is building something that will outlive me.we support Libraries. We encourage Learning moments. Reading circles. A future Youth Fair. Poetry collections that ask us to forgive without forgetting. Children’s books that grow alongside the children who read them.

Because if you do not teach children who they are, the world will tell them something else.

And children deserve far more than that.

This is Rhetoric and Reverie.
A love letter to Liberia.
A promise to the children.
And the beginning of something we will build together

🎉 Thank You to the Liberian Association of Canada Women (LAC WOMEN) 🎉

We are beyond thrilled to express our heartfelt gratitude to the Liberian Association of Canada Women for sponsoring the digital literacy training for 60 incredible students at the Voker Mission Public School in Paynesville! 🙌

The project, implemented by Rosetta Steps Education Center, has officially kicked off, and we couldn’t be more excited to see these 12th-grade students embark on their 8-week journey into the world of technology! 💻✨

Day 1 was a huge success, with Ama Harris, Executive Director of Rosetta Steps Education Center, observing the launch and showing her full support. A big shoutout to our amazing facilitators, Joseph Smith and Sylvester Nagbe from Empowerment Squared Liberia, for leading this impactful training! 🎓

The students began with a baseline assessment and are now diving into essential skills like computer basics, internet navigation, Microsoft Word, Excel, and Canva. These skills will open up a world of opportunities for them, and we can’t wait to see their progress!

A massive thank you again to the Liberian Association of Canada and the President Patrich Wes for making this possible. Together, we are empowering the next generation with the tools they need to thrive in a digital world. 🌍💡
