One final hurdle to the Master of Wine… and, naturally, I slipped at the finish line 🤣

It couldn’t have been a more fitting end to a journey full of hurdles, lessons, and the occasional stumble — always made easier by the support of friends and family who helped picked me up and kept me smiling through it all.

The MW journey has been an incredible adventure, and last night was a gorgeous moment to celebrate with friends, family, and the brilliant @mastersofwine community.

Yeheeeee!!! Last night I got to drink Champagne, eat oysters & celebrate with my Mum, as we won Debut Drink Book of the Year with @southamericawineguide at the Fortnum & Mason Awards! I am beyond thrilled and so grateful for all the help from so many valuable contributors and amigos towards the book 🙌
A big thank you and cheers to the core team & photographers Helen, @katherinejroach @matt.wilson.gc @steph.foto.mendoza @gregfunnell @guychambers and I am especially grateful to my mum who has spent the last year posting out the books to all corners of the globe!

Malbec: Translating South America to the world…

I am fortunate to write for many wonderful publications, both print and online, and one of my favourite to write for is @worldoffinewine - both because it is absolutely beautiful in print, offering the rare luxury to write long form, and also because Editor @neil.beckett has an acute eye for curating great content.

I have had the pleasure of writing for the magazine for many years, and in what has become my annual South America splash, this year Neil allowed me to write about Malbec… but not just in Argentina, Malbec’s journey throughout the continent and how it is perhaps our greatest translator of South American terroir today.

BUNBURY this week 🍷 After seven cities across six states, a journey celebrating South American wine across the U.S. made its final stop here in Miami — at Bunbury. We had the pleasure of welcoming @amanda_wine and @whatsarahdrinks into our house, together with @southamericawineguide and @fiftyonenorthhq , bringing Miami’s wine community together for an afternoon of incredible wines, stories, food and conversation. For the past 12 years, Argentine wine culture has been part of the story we’ve been building at Bunbury, which made hosting this experience especially meaningful to us. THANK YOU MIAMI 🙌🌴

It was an honour to share so many wonderful South American wines with such a great group of sommeliers, retailers and media on Monday. We couldn’t have chosen a better city to conclude our whirlwind tour of the US — after a brilliant two weeks visiting DC, NYC, Boston, Chicago, Austin, and St Pete and meeting over 300 wine professionals along the way.

Thank you to our generous Miami hosts @bunburymiami & our brilliant team on the day @see_graygray @gracefulgrapes @emmaylaluna Lis and Amelie, and to @soyfedelucena for capturing it all on camera 🍷

Wonderful wine & tennis weekend with @winenotwhinemom 🥂🎾

Somehow I failed to remember to take photos of the many delicious bottles we tried, but here is a small, representative sample… including the gorgeous 2016 Gravonia blanco. I love mature white Rioja, and literally can’t get my hands on enough of it. So complex, silky and layered, absolutely delicious. Especially with beautiful mature cheeses and buttery prosciutto.

Matthiason Chard was another highlight, one of my favourite Napa producers, we also uncorked a gorgeous Corison Cabernet with the steak (thank you Holly!!) and a cheeky number from Tenerife.

Such a treat to have a reviving weekend catching up with a good friend, before heading to DC to kick off the big @southamericawineguide wine series tomorrow 😎 by @amanda_wine

Ladies and Gentlemen, Jake Skakun Master of Wine 🙌🍷

Bursting with pride and joy to catch up with the amazing @jakeskakun - a newly minted Master of Wine.

Not only has Jake achieved this incredible title over years of study, dedication and hard work, but also managed to open an incredible new restaurant (the delicious @generalpublic201 - another gem in his growing Toronto portfolio) and had two beautiful children with his wife during the process. An inspiration by every measure.

Jake was a rock in my MW studies, along with @whatsarahdrinks (who has just smashed her MW tasting exam 🥳), with whom we did weekly online study sessions. For me, being out on a limb in Mendoza without any fellow students within hundreds and sometimes thousands of miles to study with in person, Jake and Sarah meant the world to me. Both shared their knowledge and experience so freely and generously, always making time for online sessions together.

I know it’s a bittersweet time with all the results coming out right now. But for those friends who haven’t had such positive news recently, keep going. And remember that the most rewarding thing about the MW is the people you meet, and no result can take that away.

We celebrated with oysters, crudo & 2015 @tawsewinery Chardonnay among other fabulous bites and glasses at the beautiful General Public. Well worth a visit if you are ever in Toronto 🇨🇦 by @amanda_wine
