Back home from the most amazing experience in Taif City of Literature where I was working on my novel-in-progress, The Last Resort, alongside writers from around the world. We were given the warmest of welcomes. I am grateful for the adventure and camaraderie of the other writers selected for this awe inspiring opportunity.

I am pleased to share that I am on the shortlist for the New Angle Prize for Literature 2025 with my YA novel, Looking for Lucie. The New Angle Prize for Literature is a £3,000 biennial award for a book of literary merit set in or influenced by the region of East Anglia. It is an award for a recently published book of literary merit, associated or influenced by the region of East Anglia.
This is what the judges said about Looking for Lucie:
“We loved the authorial voice, it was amusing, thoughtful and educational. It conveyed a sense of other within a place that you are from. We felt it was the right balance of humour and light touch for an important story that feels relevant and contemporary for any but particularly a young adult readership”

We could look at this illustration all day. 🐦🌿

This stunning spread from Boundless Sky by Amanda Addison, illustrated by Manuela Adreani, shows Bird in full flight — surrounded by scattered petals and butterflies in the softest, dreamiest palette. There's something about the way the swallow soars through that misty teal sky that feels like pure freedom. ✨

Boundless Sky tells the parallel stories of a migrating swallow and a young girl fleeing northern Africa — two journeys, one boundless sky. A quiet and powerful story about belonging, migration, and finding your way home. 💙 by @amandaauthorart

Two recent reads which I thoroughly enjoyed. The Others by Sheena Kalayil and Flesh by David Szalay.

The Others, longlisted for The Women's Prize for Fiction 2026, tells a story of secrets, lies and love as East Germany collapses. I loved this book from the start and felt swept away by the unusual love triangle.

Flesh, winner of the Booker Prize, tells the journey of a young man from a Hungarian housing estate to the world of the ultra-rich in London. This book was unsettling to begin with but soon became a compelling page turner. Each chapter was of its own time frame and entity and gave a great structure and succinctness to the novel.

These seemingly different books have many common themes. They begin in unnamed Cold War cities and navigate the changes which came to East Germany and Hungary. The central protagonists feel outsiders in both their own and other lands. Both are epic stories of love and life which spans decades. Happy reading! by @amandaauthorart

📔Looking for Lucie
Amanda Addison
Neem Tree Press
Publication date : April 18, 2024
272 pages, Paperback

Lucie has heard the question her whole life: “Where are you really from?” Growing up in a mostly white town, she doesn’t have an answer that satisfies anyone, including herself. Her mother is white, she has never met her father and her reflection doesn’t match the family she loves. Everyone tells her it shouldn’t matter. But it does. As Lucie turns eighteen, a new friendship with Nav, someone who knows exactly who he is and where he comes from, pushes her to confront the questions she’s been avoiding. If her past is a mystery and her identity feels incomplete, maybe the answers are out there waiting to be found. So Lucie does the one thing that might change everything: she takes a DNA test.

Looking for Lucie is a contemporary YA novel about identity, belonging and the courage it takes to ask hard questions about who you are and who you want to become.
