We finally did it! Almost three years after it’s opening, She said got a prober store sign. Every small step should still get acknowledgement.

Here I am chilling on the floor with the letters. (It was still summer back then.) I’m even happier I got to continue this ongoing work with Emilia and the team of @shesaidbooks.

Amanda Haas Abd el Halim @amandahase is a Swiss-Egyptian graphic designer, researcher, embodiment guide, and educator. As Studio Amanda Haas studioamandahaas, she has been focused on identities, books, and posters, namely for She Said and Futuress, as well as for artists and institutions all over the world. With School of Observation @schoolofobservation, an interdisciplinary research and publishing practice, they collaborate with artist Giacomo Santiago Rogado on experimental work, resulting in open-ended investigations, activist projects, embodiment happenings, and, at times, in award-winning books.

🌺 We finally do a re-edition of our famous organic cotton Observer-Caps. Put yourself on our waitlist via dm. You’ll be the first to receive one in October. 🌱

If you’re near a botanical garden chances are, they have specimens of the rare giant titan arum, which are mostly dormant, and every 15 years build the largest flower in the world. We visited one garden in August late at night, to not only see the short-lived flower in bloom on its night of blossoming, but to also smell it. It doesn’t just smell intensely, it actually stinks like rotten meat 🥩. Its ‘scent’, the pheromones, actually is only spread the first hours of its bloom. It is supposed to cover a vast area of several kilometres in its tropical origin forests of Sumatra, Indonesia. With this post we’re recognising Indonesia experiencing a few troubling months, with droughts and extreme weather events.

Some green, some red, some high, some low, in a time of great disparities. Radical hope is desperately needed currently, as oversimplifications and black and white thinking are trending.
Big thanks to all who were part of a temp fam within academia and beyond. I’ve officially mastered Critical Urbanisms 😮‍💨. Thank you to the net that held me, a system of nourishing support, woven of a million leafy lianas, lively debates, walks and hugs. Many hugs.

Thank you to the many persons not visible here, you’ve been part of this journey. I keep you in my heart ❤️. You’ve been more structural than the walls of the institutions.

ICE ice baby. I’ve been a bit frozen on this app but hey, I’m still doing things coolly and hopefully evenly paced. So I thought about my rules on how to defreeze the blocked channel.
Rule No. 1: keep on rolling. If the work output is blocked, opt for:
Rule No. 2: stop drop and keep on dancing. Till the blockage melts away, then keep on rolling. Start with rule No. 1. In case of overheating, continue with No. 3:
Rule No. 3: cool down, slow down, breathe. Just chill a bit. Feel all the feels. If you’re cooled down enough, continue with No. 1 or No. 2.

tom was an exhibition communication for Stadtgalerie Bern that I designed for Nancy Lupo back in winter. Thanks to @eva_knuesel from the @stadtgalerie_bern.

Remember, ICE melts. Heat up the temp, and keep on rolling or dancing.

Much gratitude to anyone supporting me and my studio practice throughout the past year. I am grateful to be able to design posters for art and culture as a way of resisting an increasingly hostile environment for exactly these practices. As my practices and that of many cultural workers have gone through a lot of rearranging and making work, what is often seen as fundamentally non-essential work. It is essential, and at times, art, design, culture, may not just be life saving. It may be a way of thriving.

I‘ve got 99% problems, but my crew ain’t one. Some great projects in the making with some longterm collaborators and some good things still very much pssssst 🤫… and apart from that, trying to survive the collapse of late stage capitalism. And how about you? Where are you on the scale from 0-10, where 0 is „I am so super well and everything is going well“ to 10 „a burning hot mess and all we can do is collectively treat each other with even more kindness, because we’re barely making it to the next day“? I am a hot, undeniable 9. 🔥🫠😵‍💫🥵

Posters never cease to amaze me. Here’s the final piece of the in-process post from earlier.
Posters speak to us, unlike loudspeakers, they’re not noisy or cranky, but still they reach us, get our attention through their unmoving voices. A poster is almost a thing from the past. Not animated, still, not shouting, not even enlightened. Not unlike books, they’re here to stay for now. Posters seem to have a moment of revival right now.
