POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
Ahh this movie! Pleasantville, 1998! How does it not have more recognition?!

Two teenagers are transported back into a 1950s sitcom. As they start to experience desire, art, sensuality, grief and new ways of thinking and living they start to change into color. Their color represents ALIVENESS!

The movie uses color as a metaphor for aliveness, authentic expression, novelty, differences and individuality

This scene between a son and his mother is so poignant. It’s painful if you empathize on either side. A mother who is coming more into her self while simultaneously experiencing such fear on what her husband and others will think. The risk in leaving the familiar especially around others who want you to stay the same or expect you to be a certain way.

When a son, David, takes on the role of protecting his mother and offers her a way to hide herself to preserve belonging. He also witnesses her with presence and understanding.

The mother, Betty, in this scene is tuning more to herself while still in the between. The process of change takes time. She knows herself more now while isn’t fully ready to reveal that to others.

Perhaps you can feel why Betty still believes she must conceal herself true self. How her fear, risk, and even truth of ridicule in being her fully self keeps her small and hiding. Knowing oneself does not always mean one is ready for that freedom yet.

It takes time. Patience. Gentleness. Trust. Acceptance.

Aliveness and living it fully requires honesty and courage.

What do you still conceal and cover to remain loved, approved of, and accepted? What is necessary for you for your true colors to show.

Most aren’t yearning for success or fame, most are yearning for aliveness. As it exists in you.

And even more so, most want aliveness and connection. Aliveness and belonging.

Later in the movie a soda shop owner sees Betty and responds to her color with wonder rather than judgment and rejection.

The characters more and more begin to appreciate art and beauty.

Tell me how this movie touches you.

YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

It’s already within you. Remember.

Poem on slide 5 is a combination of poems featured in my poetry collection What is Another Word for Intimacy published in 2021. @yellowarrowpublishing chose to publish my poetry upon entering their women’s chapbook poetry contest back in 2021

Grateful. Go create.

I hold worry in one hand
And hope in the other.
In my visions
You realize and
Drive south
Take me to the mountains
I shout.
Leave me in your pocket
Revisit.
You taste like
M I N T
You are fascination
In A R T.
Sad.
In.
Boy.
Warmth in flannel.
And particles in joy.
In these thousand ways
To kiss in torrential
Rain.
We become Love.
in a shared
S P A C E.
Which does not need
Language at all.
So bet on
Signs
That worry is heavier than hope
To drop the fear
B E H I N D
And
A L L.
A T
O N C E.
This
time
you
S T A Y.
Always. In. Sync.
Always
Blooming.
Together.
Despite any
Twinge
in
the
falling
leaves.

Locked between patience and your absence

YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

Wow this came out a year ago !!!!! Still in awe of the magic and miracles in meeting @urferaltherapist and sharing in these convos together!

Look how far you have come !

We are not defined by the criteria that meets a diagnosis. We are here to discover and know thyself

Maybe you learn in your own way
Maybe you connect and love in your own way
Maybe you experience fun and joy in your own way
Maybe the very things that are labeled as problematic are the very things that make you gifted.

What happens when you embrace instead of fix?
Allow and expand instead of dim and diminish
Could the “negative aspects” be responses to you not receiving what you needed to grow

Get curious. Ponder.

YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

I remember seeing 12 Angry Men (1997) for the first time in 9th grade AP government. It was actually a movie I enjoyed watching in school!

Initially all the jurors but one believe the boy on trial is guilty to killing his father. The movie takes you through how one person’s uncertainty when everyone else is “certain” can have a huge influence when willing to take time with something. To view beyond initial impressions and to consider is there guilt beyond an unreasonable doubt.

There is a difference between certainty and truth.

The movie also shows the role of projection and prejudice and biases and how much that sways what we see, perceive, and believe.

The whole movie takes place in the jury room. The tension is felt. The acting is also excellent for a remake. The 1950s version is also very well done, so I hear since I haven’t seen it.

We can take life seriously without pretending to know more than we know.

Feeling is not proof while our feelings matter inside of us, not necessarily what is inside another. Are we here to persuade others to agree or are we here to coexist in our differences and to really hear each other.

This movie isn’t about guilt or innocence, it’s the dynamics in the room. The conversations and interactions in the room about another’s life who isn’t even in the room! Are you with what is present?

Check out 12 Angry Men if you haven’t yet. Have you seen the original? I’d love to know your thoughts and impressions?

YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

Supposedly I wrote this. A year ago. The last slide is a video I made at some point with it. So humbled by my words and reminders for what I stand for (probably imperfectly)

Integrity over compliance
Love over hate
Peace over violence
Acceptance over exclusion

You standing for something passionately even if we have differences is what is attractive, admirable to me.

Your creativity is your essence.
Make art.
Be the sun.

YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

What happens when we stop performing—and let ourselves be seen? ✨

The capable one. The easygoing one. The one who always holds it together.

Sometimes the roles that help us belong leave little room for who we actually are.

On Dealing Healing, I’m joined by Amanda Baker for Authenticity as Intervention: What Happens When We Stop Performing.

An invitation to explore the masks we wear, the cost of constantly editing ourselves, and the possibility of connection without a performance.

Who are you when you don’t have to prove anything? 🤍

Everyday is a miracle.

“Nail in my head from my creator, you gave me life now show me how to live.”

Music is everything. This is actually an Audioslave song that IG music does not have.

Poem from August 2021.

October 4th daily meditation was on miracles. Same day I came across this saved miracle quote from July 2022

Everything is connected. YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

Go create.

You are okay either way. You are love either way. You are light either way.

No matter any outcome it’s all inside. Remember. Remember. Remember. You are free as you are

Happy. Joyous. Loving. Free.

Sometimes you’ll still need to enact a “boundary” though check inside…where is it coming from??? Control, fear, someone else’s advice or from an inner knowing and trust in you. A surrender that we have NO CLUE what we are doing and yet can still live fully, presently, lovingly, humbly, imperfectly. Something so MAGICAL gave you life as a human , ask whatever that power is how to live. Ask something greater than your own sense of self, how to live. How will you have me live?? Uncertainty with security. Unknown with peace.

The answer is YOU. The therapist is YOU. Because this magic lives in you too

Listen. It is such a privilege to LIVE

This is a clip from a full recording of a talk with myself and whoever else is listening.

YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

Autumn hums. An old one from December 2020

You respond, “what do you mean?”

You never seem to understand when I speak in poetry.

Autumn hums.
I hear it in temptation
As if tempting was a sound.
You, delicate in flavor
I spun.
Married-she-goes-around.
If I could taste you it would be autumn
If I could hear you it would be in hums
You are flannel in feeling
And a purring in a drum
An orange in light
And yellow in joy
Red in anger
Sadness in boy.
Autumn speaks in crisp
And scars in tongue
You are my hum
The unspoken.
First I see at dawn.
It dawned on me.
Did it for you?
Autumn always hums.

You do understand. YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.

“I see dead people” I saw the Sixth Sense in theaters and remember actually being scared. I will say that to me this movie is not actually a horror film though, it’s a drama. The most captivating and haunting parts for me is not the music, the visuals of dead people, the shock factor, it’s the impact on Cole (Haley Joel Osment), his mother, Malcolm. Cole initially is tormented by his gift in seeing and interacting with dead people/ghosts. He is fearful that others, especially his mother, will think he’s a freak. The beauty is how this scene shows otherwise. The beauty is in his mother saying she would never think that of him and that he gets to help his mother with her own grief. In this scene they witness each other

The relationship between Cole and Malcolm (Bruce Willis), Cole’s therapist, also captures deeper meaning throughout the whole movie. Malcom believes it’s his job to help Cole, yet what’s revealed is that Cole helps Malcom see what he cannot see yet

They both help each other, not with tools or strategies or concepts of theories but with their relationship. Their presence and connection and willingness to stay until what needs to be seen, felt, and understood comes to completion between them

Again I’m in awe at the movies I loved because they’ve hit me in ways I didn’t originally see…that I’m always here and so are you

Thank you to this movie and M. Night Shymalan for creating it

The Sixth Sense led the era of surprise endings and is often known for that….i hope you see the beauty in the acting, the characters, the experience, the depth, the humanness beyond just thrill

Tell me how this movie impacts you

YOU AMAZE ME. I love you.
