For this embroidered piece, I took inspiration from ALS research and from the intricate shapes of the nervous system affected by the disease. Neuron pathways are stitched with metallic thread like constellations, symbolizing both the ongoing search for a cure and the importance of every breakthrough along the way.

“Shadows of Strength” is about the traces we hold onto - the outlines of people, moments, and love that stay long after they’re gone. It reflects on how memories stay with us - not in full detail, but in impressions and feelings. Layers of soft, warm washes sit beneath cool silhouettes of branches and leaves like soft cast shadows, serving as evidence that even what we can no longer see is still deeply felt.

“Hope” is a collaborative piece created throughout the evening of Canvas for a Cure by attendees — families, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, people living with ALS, and those honoring someone they’ve lost.

Guests were invited to place paper butterflies around the canvas. The act of contributing to the piece reflects the collective care, effort, and persistence that drive progress toward a cure.

The completed piece stands as a portrait of shared hope, resilience and belief in what’s possible.

Last night was truly so special. I had the privilege of exhibiting a new body of work at the Canvas for a Cure event held by the VCU Health ALS Clinic to celebrate the resilience of the ALS community, the progress in research and the contributions that make it possible. Each piece was designed to reflect facets of the ALS experience.

I met families, caregivers, clinicians, researchers, people currently living with ALS, and people honoring someone they’ve lost.

I’ve always believed that art holds emotion long after it leaves your hands, but seeing people interact with the work - especially as they added butterflies to the Hope canvas, shared stories, and connected with one another made the experience feel so much bigger than art itself.

I’m honored to have had the opportunity to share this collection and to have been welcomed into such a powerful, generous community.

I’m excited to share more about each piece over the next few days 🩵🦋

Collaborating with @whitnneyelizabethdesign to create screenprinted fabric for her beautiful bench was easily one of my favorite projects I’ve done at scad! So special to see a design come to life.

This trio titled “Work in Progress” is based on my daily practice of small abstract watercolor paintings as a means to practice mindfulness. The Screenprinted fabric is a halftone repeat of my watercolor paintings. It is stretched around a cardboard base, wrapped in string, and pinned.

This piece represents the way we must treat ourselves like works in progress in order to grow. They speak to how we must heal, mend, and redefine relationships in life after trauma. They symbolize consistency and commitment to growth.
