______

Amanda Rodier is a textile designer and mixed media artist. In her thematic exploration titled “Continuity,” she used intuitive making as a tool for self-discovery, introspection, and healing. This series of work granted her the opportunity to be truly present, let go of expectation, and flow. She began each piece with an open mind, allowing meaning to emerge. Each piece became a mirror, revealing new aspects of herself. This workflow allowed her to process memory: explicit and implicit, begin to let go of trauma, and prepare for new beginnings in the next chapter of her life.

This book was created to highlight this beautiful Hemp Swimwear Collection- ‘Soleil et Amis’
🌞🌊🌼🌾
Designed, cut, and hand-painted by fibers artist, Fiona Duffy.
Inspired by warm summer breezes, sunshine, and what it means to be joyful with friends.
Made in February 2023.
Photographed by me, Modeled by Amanda Rodier, Emma Street, and Fiona Duffy.

Soleil et Amis was born out of a desire for synthetic-free swimwear. Sustainability can mean so many things, but in swimwear, we often see it accomplished through recycled nylon or polyester and ethical labor practices. Unfortunately, even if materials come from recycled post-consumer waste, microplastics are released from these fabrics every time we put these suits through the wash. These microplastics are harmful to marine life and human life. We need a new way to show sustainability in swimwear. These bathing suits are made using a fabric blend of hemp, cotton, and lycra, knitted to create a stretchy and sustainable material.

metal and fabric

this project brought me so much joy. it was so amazing to collaborate with one of my best friends to create something beautiful.

simple clean metal base lets the fabric speak. the tubing is 1.50” x 1.50” and 1” x 1.25”. the top of the tubing is capped with flat bar and the feet are made from polyethylene plastic. the fabric was created by my dear friend Amanda who designed and screenprinted the pattern.

Awesome work from my two FIBR 312 Screen Printing classes here at SCAD Fibers. Screen printing is a challenging process, and takes discipline and practice. These students rose to the challenge for this first project, Screen Printing for Product. 💝🌈🎨 #scadfibers #scad #pepehall #savannahgeorgia #screenprinting #surfacedesign @scadfoundations.savannah @scaddotedu @scadfashiondesign

Excited to share the final collections from fall quarter’s FIBR 418 and FIBR 744 Collection Development class!

This class focuses on the development of a comprehensive collection of digital designs and physical swatches that are tailored to each student’s individual interests and career direction. Through in-depth research and development of concept, design, and color, students produce a range of designs for applications as diverse as fashion, accessories, lifestyle, wallpaper, carpet, upholstery, fine art, and installation. Students follow a step-by-step process to create industry-standard digital presentations and professional sample books.

Inspired by canyons and their variety of beautiful shapes and colors, Amanda Rodier wanted to create a design that expressed how just like canyon creation, the human experience isn't always tame.

Amanda Rodier’s design “Canyons” is a top ten #DSCVR finalist!

The Savannah College of Art and Design @scaddotedu student stated why she entered DSCVR, “I was inspired to enter the competition by a course I was enrolled in at my school. My professor was super passionate about the hospitality industry and introduced us to the competition. We did market research on carpet design in public spaces. It was super inspiring to see what a huge role carpets and flooring play in setting the tone of a space in terms of aesthetics as well as functionality.”

👉 Double-tap if you love these color combinations – and watch this space as we highlight each of the talented finalists in our annual #studentdesign competition, in partnership with @NEWHinc. Keep in mind your favorite design and be on the lookout for voting April 11th-April 15th, ahead of our grand-prize winner announcement on May 6th!
