🌿 We are celebrating over a decade of resistance, resilience & victories for the #AmazonRainforest.
Across the upper Amazon, from the heart of Ecuador to Peru and Colombia, #AmazonFrontlines and @AlianzaCeibo partner with Indigenous communities to protect the rainforest, its defenders, and to ensure cultural survival. From bringing clean water to communities poisoned by oil extraction, to stopping destructive projects, we’ve won major victories for human rights, the forest & our climate. āœŠšŸ½šŸ’š
We are guided by elders, ancestors, and stories from the forest,
& inspired by the courage of defenders, youth, storytellers, & land protectors.
We are dedicated to honoring those who have lost their lives for this cause,
& determined to carry our collective mission forward with resilience and hope.

It fills us with profound hope & pride to share that our sister organization, @AlianzaCeibo, has been awarded one of the most prestigious prizes globally, the 2026 #Gulbenkian Prize for Humanity by @FCGulbenkian.

For more than a decade, we have worked alongside #AlianzaCeibo as a collective, growing as a community of activists working hand in hand for the future of the #amazonrainforest.

#AlianzaCeibo is a first-of-its-kind organization, led from the ground-up and directly from Indigenous territories. It unites four Indigenous nations—the A’i Cofán, Siekopai, Siona, and Waorani—who have chosen to stand together to protect millions of hectares of primary rainforest and ancestral ways of life in the Upper Amazon, the most biodiverse place on Earth.

This global award is a crystal clear acknowledgment that Indigenous leadership and frontline organizing is not just an ideal—it is an essential climate solution.

Rooted in the wisdom of elders and ancestors, and sustained by the strength, resilience and vision of these four nations, it shows what is possible when Indigenous peoples lead the defense of their territories, cultures and cosmovision.

This recognition honors the communities and leaders who have built this movement, whose work has earned the trust of communities, the solidarity of civil society, and the respect of allies and institutions across the region and around the world.

We are proud to share this path with you, to learn from you, and to keep building alongside you for the future of the Amazon.

Congratulations, compas! by @amazonfrontlines

What does it take to cure the wounds colonialism left behind, so Indigenous educators can teach from a place of healing?

Amazon Frontlines and @alianzaceibo invited more than 20 future educators on a journey of healing and learning, part of the Community-Led Education Program, recovering ancestral memory to preserve cultural identity for future generations.

Their journals offer a window into healing through ancestral memory and plant medicine, confronting wounds left by colonialism, extractivism, and conventional education, and reclaiming the knowledge needed to teach future generations in the northern Ecuadorean Amazon.

At the @centro.takiwasi.tarapoto , master plants were used in therapeutic processes and ceremonies as participants worked through these struggles.

This journey is part of a bigger effort to reclaim Indigenous education. Just last week, after six years of work, the Ecuadorian government officially recognized autonomous, community-led Indigenous educational systems and curricula — a historic step toward Indigenous peoples’ right to shape education in their own territories.

Read their testimonies.

Schoolchildren from Yonkers New York connected with Indigenous students from the A’i Cofán nation in the Ecuadorian Amazon to foster new relationships, learn about Indigenous knowledge, and nurture a collective responsibility to take care of our planet.

They made a short educational film to share their experience and help inspire positive change in the world.

This project was brought to life as part of the National Geographic Society’s Explorer-Educator Exchange programme. Storytellers, educators, Indigenous communities and NGOs came together to tell the story of what’s possible when we connect and collaborate across borders and cultures for the benefit of people and nature.

Find out how this project came together in our StoryMap and watch the final film via the links in the bio.

Huge thanks to @natgeosociety @amazonfrontlines and @alianzaceibo for working with us to make this a reality, and
to @openplanetorg for the extra footage in the final film. by @amazonfrontlines
