Now that we’re are finally back home with our families, We are so excited to finally share our completed mural “Land of Labor and Love.”

A couple years ago the amazing @red.dirt.rosie and I met and instantly became friends. Not long into our friendship we KNEW we had to paint a mural together. With this mural, we finally were able to bring that dream to life.
From the very beginning, we worked to build a design that strongly represents Oklahoma,its gorgeous landscape, and the hardworking and loving people that live here.

One thing about working with someone you get along with, the whole is greater than the sum of the parts! Something about laughing and having a good time with your teammate makes the long hours a lot more manageable. That was definitely true for us and we’re already looking forward to working together again!

We are so proud of this mural, which happened to be the largest to date for either of us!

We can’t share this without saying thank you to my good friend @redplainsphotography who captured the reference photo of the bison! Thank you David for letting us use your Amazing photo as reference!

Here’s the scan of my piece “Feral Hospitality,”

When researching this plant, called “golden crownbeard” it was often described in almost an unpleasant manner. “Feral” came up several times.
I thought I might recapture the word feral for this title and shine the plant in its true manner. That of a gorgeous hostess, giving refuge, food, and life to all who encounter it. :)
Her hospitality feeds the hungry in the hot dry days of summer’s end, and sustains the birds as the seasons change. Her cheery flowers dot the roadside when all is dry and brown. She is green and yellow and filled with joy.
And she inspires me to be my best self even when the environment is not supporting me. To be a leader and supporter of those around me.

Ahh what a whirlwind.
This artist life is so special.
I just spent 3 intense days with the most passionate, devoted, and sincere folks.
People who drove hours, flew in, planned months ago to make this happen.

These artists battled all the elements- some losing their entire wall to rain TWICE! Some delayed by flights. Pushing their bodies to the limit daily. Skipping meals, probably dehydrating themselves, working 12 plus hours a day, to make magic happen. And it feels good, in a way, to be so extreme. To be soaked in rain all day, and shed your skin in a hot shower. To paint through an injury. To sweat. To be sore all over all the time. It feels worth it.

Worth the lack of sleep. Waking at 6 am, working til 7. Dinner at 8, and because it’s really the only chance to, socializing til 2 am. Then, waking at 6 to do it all over again. Falling in love with one another’s energy, our weirdness, our love for “the game.” And then it’s over and we’re saying goodbye. See you maybe next year, or in the wild world of art somewhere.

it’s a love like no other. A friendship like no other. Because no one else gets it like a group of weirdos painting giant walls with every ounce of themselves. It’s a feeling like no other. These weirdos maybe know me better than anyone else, because they are me. And I am them.

It doesn’t matter how unsustainable it is. I never want it to end. But it does. We all went back to real life the very next day. This experience but a moment; a blip in life. Oh but a beautiful one it is.
To make art. To experience the making of art by others. To impact the world in a way that only we can.

My piece is about grief. About loss. And about living with that loss. The theme this year is “where the light gets in,” which was perfectly fitting. I have been wanting to paint a mural that’s connected to my work about grief for a while, and with this theme, I knew it was finally time.

To lose elements of my mural to rain, felt like I was living the grief as I painted. Loss and rebuilding. It’s almost like performance art.

Sharing my piece for OVAC 12x12! This piece is called “Prickly Paradise” (get it, cause they’re prickly pears)
Anywho, this piece will be auctioned at their one night only fundraiser! It’s an honor to be a selected artist for this show, and display my art alongside so many wonderful Oklahoma artists! OVAC is such a great organization that really does a lot for Oklahoma artists! Countless grants and resources help fund projects and help artists professionally prepare themselves for all the things :) I love this org and the folks behind it, and I am thrilled to be a part of their fundraiser event!! taken in Dunlap Codding by @amberandersenart

HUGE NEWS!!!!

My mural has placed 2nd at the state fair this year! ✨🎉
This is massive because every mural was honestly incredible , and i feel blessed to even get to paint next to such talented folks!

Last year, my mural placed 4th, which I was so proud of! My kiddos however were quick to remind me that I didn’t “podium.”
Right then and there I knew that my goal for this year would be to place top 3! I got worried when I learned the theme, as I knew it would be hard to connect and was part of the judging criteria.. I put all my eggs into the basket of design, color, and technical skill. 😂 I still wasn’t sure if I would meet my goal..
but when I heard the news! I was ecstatic and so proud of my accomplishment, that I immediately told my kiddos!
And they said
“Good job mom! You almost got 1st!”

These kids really hold me to a high standard!
