I’m thrilled with the placement of my painting at the @rwabristol open exhibition! Right next to the beautiful work of invited artist @mohammad.barrangi which is a must see!

As someone who is so accustomed to curating their own exhibitions and making their own opportunities, it was an unexpectedly big feeling of accomplishment to be included in a show at a big arts institution. Seeing where my work was positioned on the wall almost made me cry, thank you RWA team.

The exhibition is open to the public from 12th September to 3rd Jan during usual gallery opening hours, and my painting ā€˜Floating Lotus’ is for sale. It’s painted with my foraged mineral oil colours, and sits perfectly in the semi dream world of Barrangi’s captivating textured works.

Made slowly, in collaboration with nature: I made my first batch of natural pigment watercolours to share with you and have only one remaining! I'm glad you guys liked them. I will certainly be making more but only in small batches.

They are rustic, grainy and experimental. Housed in vintage tins, and ground by hand from foraged rocks, soils, and sourced natural pigments. Perfectly imperfect.

Let me know if you'd like to grab the last one, or be notified about the next batch!

As Folklore, Myths, and Legends is now open at @thegalleryatgreenandstone, I am sharing my largest painting that will be on show there. Inner Spirit Speaks/Breathing Fog in to the Valleys is a piece with so much depth that it needed two names!

The exhibition is open 6th-17th October and is curated by @venetiahiggins

This painting is more of a personal folk tale. The inner bird creature character emerged in one of my quick ā€˜body scan’ drawings, connecting to the inner spirit inside me that had a strong voice, something more primal. I explored this idea of looking deep inside us to know what we need to say, guided by a spirit. The voice of a bird creature calling with sounds that maybe our words cannot put sense to. In sharing these sounds, they become fog: a powerful yet ephemeral expelling. Breathing fog in to the mountains and valleys, blanketing them in a gentle atmosphere born from the alchemy of the inner spirit.

The inner and outer worlds live in harmony when we listen deeply and move through the world with authenticity. Like the fog, we can affect huge change around us, and also see it settle and dissipate as if it never was there. Peace in the ongoing flow of life’s changes, and remembering the path that brought us here.

Painted with Welsh slate, terracotta, Bristol downs clay, and mussel shells from Devon.

Little glimpses into FOLKLORE MYTHS & LEGENDS.

Wowee what an incredible response so far. Thank you thank you thank you - for your kind words about the show, for flocking to the opening night, for buying an artwork. I cannot believe it’s only DAY TWO and nearly half of the works have been snapped up!!! It just demonstrates the incredible standard of work created by these 36 hugely talented artists. What a privilege it’s been to work with them and bring together 200 artworks inspired by the stories that shape us. This is by far the largest and most complex curation I’ve ever done and I must admit, I am really thrilled with the outcome. Bring on the next ten days ā¤ļø

The exhibition runs until 17th October and is open 10am-5pm Mon-Sat @thegalleryatgreenandstone. Online catalogue available at thegalleryatgreenandstone.com taken in Green & Stone by @amberbardell

FOLKLORE, MYTHS AND LEGENDS ⭐ AMBER BARDELL

Spotlighting artist Amber Bardell, whose work is currently on display as part of Folklore, Myths and Legends at The Gallery.

Amber Bardell is a Bristol-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice
centres on painting with natural pigments made from foraged rocks, soils and
shells. Working in collaboration with nature, she creates talismanic paintings
inspired by folklore, magical realism and the wisdom of the natural world.
Alongside painting, her practice extends into murals, fashion and curatorial
projects.

Curated by Venetia Higgins, the exhibition brings together artists exploring stories, traditions and imagery drawn from folklore, myth and legend.

Visit us in the gallery until 17 October.

I’ve been looking forward to sharing these sun soaked photos of me in my studio since Meg visited. It’s actually been a good few months now, and what a lovely moment to look back on the progress I’ve made since reestablishing myself as a nature artist.

I started transforming my painting practice into one defined by using natural pigments last year. I have now gratefully sold many of the paintings pictured, although a few are still available! And yet this series of photographs still feel so current, in the most beautiful way. I still regularly interact with these same materials and sketchbooks, although I’m ever evolving and gathering new pigments, making new images.

Thank you for encapsulating this chapter of collaborating with the earth @meg.tiff and @store_somer for the ongoing support of my practice.
In my studio at @hamiltonhousebristol, visits by appointment only but do get in touch if you’d like to stop by!
