Curated conversations.

One of the main things I love about curating my shows is ensuring the artworks have subtle conversations with each other. The tiny snail in @kate.sampson.ceramics beautiful platter is chatting to my ceramic snail. @ruth_dupre’s puffin is eyeing up the shoal of herrings in @florence.sweryda’s box, Steve Camps’ iconic whales are happily following my ceramic whale, @millie_amber and @ramsay.gillies’s mermaids are complaining about us air-breathing humans, @charlotte_salt_’s three lion faces mirror @lauren.drescher’s three lions, the shapes in @amberbardell @kerrywint.artist and @emma_sheehy_’s pieces all somehow connect to each other, @paulbommer’s CILLA & @rosie_haine_studio’s tiles are marvellous hybrids hanging out together - etc etc. I so hope some of you noticed these little connections between the pieces in my FOLKLORE MYTHS & LEGENDS curation - as these conversations is what brings me so much excitement. Spanning ceramics, textiles, metalwork, painting, printmaking and woodwork, spanning ancient mythology to contemporary folklore - all these artworks are so vastly different but I hope I’ve done my job in helping them find connections. ❤️ The final day to view the show is tomorrow - 10am-5pm.

We’ve had a wonderful first day open at @brightwells_farnham Creative Space, ahead of our opening celebration this evening.

The sun has been shining beautifully on our sculptures, and we are proud to have made our first sale!

We hope you’ll come and visit us before Thursday, we’re open daily with full hours on our page.

La Diablesse for @venetiahiggins amazing Folklore, Myths and Legends exhibition at @thegalleryatgreenandstone. Pictured in the window here with @amberbardell’s beautiful work.
On the surface this piece is quite fun and frilly, but this demon from Caribbean folklore is masquerading as a fine lady. After a bargain with the Devil for eternal beauty, La Diablesse hides her cloven hoof under her flouncy skirts and her face under a wide brimmed hat.

Tis the season of exhibitions! I will be exhibiting some ceramics and new tiny paintings next week at the Gathered exhibition at @brightwells_farnham

What a total joy to visit the Annual Open @rwabristol again for a proper look around and to hear @alicekettle and @jemma_appleby talk about their work in the gallery. There are many brilliant works in the exhibition and it’s all been hung so thoughtfully.

Doing an excellent job were this year’s guest judges/selectors @_paul_hedge_ @cerihand and @sc99_uk with RWAs @angelalizon @hamishyoungart @_katiecathrynanne and @sarahgillespieart

So many gems and new to me artists to find out about. Used my 20 tags but you can see everyone/everything on the @rwabristol website. Loads of red dots too 👍

I love Bristol… as I drove in someone was on the overpass painting the M32 ❤️a city full of artists!

Little glimpses into FOLKLORE MYTHS & LEGENDS.

Wowee what an incredible response so far. Thank you thank you thank you - for your kind words about the show, for flocking to the opening night, for buying an artwork. I cannot believe it’s only DAY TWO and nearly half of the works have been snapped up!!! It just demonstrates the incredible standard of work created by these 36 hugely talented artists. What a privilege it’s been to work with them and bring together 200 artworks inspired by the stories that shape us. This is by far the largest and most complex curation I’ve ever done and I must admit, I am really thrilled with the outcome. Bring on the next ten days ❤️

FOLKLORE, MYTHS AND LEGENDS ⭐ AMBER BARDELL

Spotlighting artist Amber Bardell, whose work is currently on display as part of Folklore, Myths and Legends at The Gallery.

Amber Bardell is a Bristol-based multidisciplinary artist whose practice
centres on painting with natural pigments made from foraged rocks, soils and
shells. Working in collaboration with nature, she creates talismanic paintings
inspired by folklore, magical realism and the wisdom of the natural world.
Alongside painting, her practice extends into murals, fashion and curatorial
projects.

Curated by Venetia Higgins, the exhibition brings together artists exploring stories, traditions and imagery drawn from folklore, myth and legend.

Visit us in the gallery until 17 October.
