Join SeekATL for our next visit as we head to the studio of Amber Toplisek @ambertoplisek. We will gather on Saturday, April 18, from 2 to 4pm. Head to seekatl.org to RSVP, and to learn more about our mission and past visits.

Amber Toplisek is an interdisciplinary artist based in Atlanta, GA. Her work explores the network of images that reside within, functioning as an imperceptible alchemy that influence and guide our lives. By embedding once-immaterial images into tangible structures, she aims to amplify the potential for images to coalesce within the viewer's physical body. Amber’s work engages with different methods of obfuscation and utilizes both kinetic and still interventions in order to investigate and extend an encounter with a photographic image.

Toplisek received her MFA in 2024 from the University of South Florida and her BFA in 2018 from Georgia State University. She has exhibited in numerous group and solo shows across the US, South Korea and the UK. Toplisek is currently a Visiting Lecturer at the Ernest G. Welch School of Art & Design at Georgia State University.

Never got around to sharing these install shots from “Third Person” a group show with @masondowling and @tomrosenow at REVERB gallery back in spring 2024 (aka last semester of grad school with a newborn babe👶🏼!) wow. What a time to be alive. This was my third iteration of the fountain install. I love getting to show this piece in a space with natural light. watching the moving water in the tanks dance on the walls was pretty magical.

It’s the first week back at @gsu_artdesign for my 4th semester teaching. I’m looking forward to what is to come this spring so I thought I’d share some highlights from last semester when I taught 4 classes—BA Capstone, Intro to Photo, 2D Design and 3D Design. 🧃

“Amber Toplisek’s gaze lingers in moments that are never fully complete. The images in her work are often slightly out of focus or seem to have slipped from capture. Photography, formed through differences between what light touches and what it leaves in shadow, is composed of what is revealed and what is concealed. Toplisek considers this not merely a medium for recording but a perceptual instrument that visualizes the unseen density of time. By printing on glass, she evokes presences the image itself cannot contain.”

In 𝙔𝙤𝙪 (𝙃𝙚𝙧) two sheep exist in a mirror-like relationship where they occupy a space of doubling, halving, and becoming two separate entities but also existing as one.
