Big News! Our Main Gallery is re-opening at the Ybor City Kress building with the opening reception of "Karst Grounds :: Quatro Sunistra" on Thursday, December 8 at 7-9pm, with a members cocktail hour at 6pm! We SO are excited to share this long-awaited group exhibition, juried by Miami-based artist Anastasia Samoylova @anasamoylova.

This will also be a first look and "soft opening" of our new Main Gallery space! In October, we opened @tempusvolta, our project space, and held an RFP for @drift_curators_space, an independent curators space, both also located on the 2nd floor of the Kress building. Tempus Volta and Drift will also be open for the evening if you haven't yet been, along with our neighbors @departmentofcontemporaryarttpa, @parachute.gallery, @quaidgallery, and @screendoor.ybor.

KARST GROUNDS :: QUATRO SUNISTRA will be the fourth iteration of our annual open call exhibition that explores the sinister side of the Sunshine State. The exhibition title is a portmanteau of "sunshine" and the Latin word "sinistra"—the forebearer of the English word “sinister” which retains some of its original connotations of something that is harmful and inauspicious. The play on words reflects the often idyllic/nightmarish dichotomy Florida embodies in its natural, social, and political climates. This serves as a thematic jumping-off point for the exhibition’s applicants as the artists investigate this peculiar state through their diverse perspectives and unique approaches.

Participating artists include Jaime Aelavanthara, matthew anthony batty, Amber Bernard, Emma Olivia Chandler, Rachel de Cuba, Will Douglas, John Eder, Melissa Eder, Jason Hackenwerth, Mary-Helen Horne, Samson Huang, Lamís Kanaan, Evan Knoll, Allen Leper, Mär Martinez, Cristina Molina, John Murdock, Eric Ondina, Taylor Pilote, Donna M. Richardson, Marti Richenstein, Dan Rule, Leah Sandler, Emiliano Settecasi, Tanner J Simon, Erin Titus, Thomas Whitworth, and Jay Youngdahl.

“somehow we can be so thirsty and close to water at the same time- an instance of contradiction necessary to shift the earth’s divine and perfect position into a place of disastrous harm.” -an excerpt from the artist statement for Flowers Within Reach, an installation me and Amber Bernard @interim_projects collaborated in back in March 2020

12-2pm on @zoom

For /She Is Here/, artists Pam Longobardi (@driftersproject) and Kelly Taylor Mitchell (@kellytaylormitchell), reimagined their exhibitions switching project spaces in the middle of the run of the show.

Led by co-curators, @kristenvcahill & @dariciamia_pi, join @driftersproject and @kellytaylormitchell for a dynamic conversation about the art, the process, and the complexities of working within such different artistic constraints - Chute Space & Sliver Space.
