🌙 Here We Go Again - Alison Cochrun 🚙

★★★★.5

This book is for all the queer teens that had that one teacher they felt safe with.

I fell in love with this book. I fell fast and hard, then it broke my precious heart and then it carefully mended it again. I did not expect that many emotions to hit me so hard, but I felt to connected to the characters that the inevitable sad outcomes really hit me like a ton of bricks.

The main characters were very relatable to me, a bit cringy at times maybe, but to be cringe is to be free… But I really loved how we got ADHD representation from both of our main characters, because it was represented in two very different forms. Logan had more hyper traits, lots of impulsiveness and having a hard time of keeping track of things. Rosemary’ ADHD showed through her constant need for control and rigid anxiety and guilt. I thought it was so well written and I appreciated the nuances. I also loved the love for teaching, it was wonderful to read especially how much Rosemary loved it and how they both felt so much love for their former teacher and mentor Joe.

Absolutely recommend this book for anyone who wants to feel all the emotions! by @amdraslibrary

welcome to our second edition of series we're in the middle of, where we exposé ourselves for leaving these series unfinished!

we start off with an update on skyward, we've read the second book and three novellas since we've last posted this series! we missed this series so much and we really need to keep reading it soon before we fall off again...

then the roots of chaos series.... yes we keep yapping about the priory of the orange tree but we haven't read the latest book in the series... our excuse is that mads was waiting for the paperback to be released... but we're getting to it SO soon!!

we fell off so bad with death cast it's actually so embarrassing but we'll get back to it... someday...

and lastly, the ending fire trilogy! we read the first book last year as it was one of the recommendations that were given to us but we just haven't had the time to read more of it, we are so excited to get back to it tho!! by @amdraslibrary

🌙 Bat Eater and Other Names For Cora Zeng - Kylie Lee Baker 🦇

★★★.5

Usually, I tend to dislike and avoid books with storylines involving Covid, but this book did a great job tackling the subject on racism towards Asian people and how it changed how the world handles xenophobia. I was pleasantly surprised with how these themes were talked about, I went in blind but I am happy to see this represented since it’s such an important topic. Similarly, I did also enjoy Cora’s rage in regards of the xenophobia and other injustices in society. It was very fascinating and fitting to the horror genre.

However, I ended up not loving this book that much, regardless of those aspects that I did like. The plot dragged, I felt like not much happened, and when something was built up sometimes it felt like it went nowhere. The dragging might just be because of the heavy subject matter, and I did feel like I needed breaks whilst reading. But the main character also felt kind of lost, which is very realistic, but made it hard to keep the story moving.

Overall, I really liked the different subject matter this book brought up. The racism during the pandemic is a topic that needs to be talked about more. However, the plot felt a bit slow and made it hard to get through. by @amdraslibrary

🪐 The Antventure Begins - RinoZ

★★★.5

This book follows Anthony who recently died and gets reborn as an Ant in a game-like world called Pangera. He needs to figure out how to level his skills and how this new world works.

I'll be honest, I got really excited about this new series when I started it, I was very into it, learning about the magic system, how the skills and xp work but it became very repetitive as Anthony was trying to gather xp to evolve and was looking for the colony. Around the halfway mark I had to look up if it gets better, after reading 300 pages of the same thing happening over and over again. Everyone seemed to agree that it'd get better within the next 20 chapters so I pushed through and they were right. Around the 75% mark things start picking up, Anthony finds the colony, needs to take care of Tiny and now has a bigger purpose than just killing monsters one after the other to evolve. I'll give this series another shot by reading the next book as I get its potential and I believe in it, we'll see if I'm right to do so, I'm however going to switch to the audiobook and hope that Jeff Hays and Annie Ellicott will make my experience a lot more enjoyable. by @amdraslibrary

🌙 Woman, Eating - Claire Kohda 🍇

★★★

I was excited about this book because I love a book about vampires, but ultimately it fell very flat for me.
It is very fascinating to use vampirism as a metaphor for an eating disorder, that I enjoyed quite a bit. But the chapters and passages were very long and did not lead to very much, which made the book seem slow and unmoving. There were a lot of dynamic relationships, in particular Lydia’s relationship with her mother was complicated at its best. All I wish is that it felt more empowering, there was a lot of words without it having a punch. It feels as if the book didn’t quite know what it wanted to be, and the plot took the hit. That being said, character study was more in focus, which is not a bad thing. I go back and forth on my opinion on this book, but I am not upset that I read it. by @amdraslibrary

🌙🪐 The Return of the King - J.R.R. Tolkien 👑

🪐 ★★★★.5

I liked this book more than the last one, I got less frustrated by the multiple POVs, I loved going back to Sam and Frodo in Mordor and it didn’t feel like I was waiting for it as much. Their friendship is so beautiful, Sam’s loyalty truly saved both of their lives as Frodo slowly got taken over by the ring. On the other hand we got to see Merry and Pippin becoming more of their own characters and seeing them reunite was so sweet. A character that really was shining for me in this book was Eowyn, I love her so much and she’s just so cool taking part into war and playing her part there. The world building is still wonderful, I understand why The Lord of the Rings series has such die hard fans, it was such a fun series to read and I’m so glad I did so, now I’m going to be able to watch the movies for the first time which is really exciting!!

🌙 ★★★★★

I cannot even begin to explain how much I love this series and these characters. Especially the second part of The Return of The King was just everything I could’ve ever wanted. I loved reading about Sam and Frodo in Mordor, their journey finally climaxing after all the build up was so satisfying and rewarding. Frodo’s struggle with being more and more corrupted by the ring the closer he gets to Mount Doom was betrayed so well and Sam’s loyalty to him was beautiful. I also quite enjoyed reading the character development of Merry and Pippin. The way they grew into themselves when they were apart and then reunited was beautiful. And aside from the characters, the world building Tolkien has done really pays off in the last part of the series. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, it’s not hard to understand how this has inspired almost all of the fantasy we see in media today. This series is truly one of a kind.
