🎬Ein spannendes Detektivabenteuer, das hinterfragt, wie kulturelle Schätze eigentlich ins Museum kommen.

Die elfjährige Johanna freut sich über den ersten Besuch ihres Opas Kito aus Tansania. Doch aus einem gemeinsamen Ausflug ins Museum wird plötzlich ein aufregender Kriminalfall: Nachdem Kito dort eine gestohlene Maske aus seinem Heimatdorf wiedererkennt, verschwindet das wertvolle Ausstellungsstück kurz darauf spurlos – und ausgerechnet er gerät unter Verdacht.

Zusammen mit ihrer sportlichen Freundin Sweta und dem technikbegeisterten Anton beginnt Johanna, auf eigene Faust zu ermitteln. Dabei muss sie sich nicht nur dem Rätsel um die Maske stellen, sondern auch ihrer eigenen Familiengeschichte.... 💫

Across regions shaped by conflict - Iran, Palestine, Lebanon, Sudan, Kurdistan, Afghanistan, Syria and many other places - daily life is marked by displacement and uncertainty, creating a persistent sense of suspension. The films in this program focus less on events than on the mental and temporal conditions they produce. Attentive to form, they trace how these states emerge through repetition, interruption, and dissonance - moments where meaning falters. Rather than offering direct explanations, the program presents films that engage uncertainty as an open, ongoing inquiry grounded in present experience.

We are looking for short films (documentary, fiction, animation, experimental, live-action) for the Focus program of INTERFILM 42nd International Short Film Festival Berlin, preferably no longer than 20min, with english subtitles, screening fee for selected films (50,- EUR)

We are aware of the unstable internet conditions in many places, please share the film link in any way possible. If you have already submitted your film directly to the Interfilm Festival, please let us know.

‚Mugabo‘ will be part of Black Radical Imagination, a film showcase programmed by @darolkae and @jheaneeeeeelle and is originally co-founded by Erin Christovale and Amir George.
This year’s program, FUGITIVE TRAJECTORIES, meditates on the various ways Black people are tending to our lives despite traumatic histories, both personal and collective, and a troubling present.

Participating artists include Ephraim Asili, Frances Bodomo, Alima Lee, Jenn Nkiru, Dana Washington and myself! Whoop whoop! by @amelia.umuhire

‚Mugabo‘ was selected for the International Film Festival Rotterdam @iffr and will be screening on the 26th and 28th January in the beautiful city of Rotterdam. It will screen alongside films from my idols, the queen @ava Duvernay ,Akosua Adoma, Haile Gerima and maaany more 🤩🤩🤩!!
Besides loving festivals in Holland for the obvious reasons (🥦🥦🥦🥦🥦), I’m extremely proud of the team behind it.
This was the first film we made and I‘m thankful for my sisters, cousins and friends, @dushime, @babichepapaya, @ajdetg, @fundiwasauti, @director_vy and my best friend Paci, who plays the titular character for allowing me to hijack our family vacation for this film, which will continue to travel around the world in 2018...more to come. wink, wink. . .

Finally catching up on the great novels of 2016.
Done with 'Swing Time' and still don't want to let go of Tracey and the protagonist's childhood memories of dancing to Michael Jackson.
It's an all too familiar tale of friendships torn apart by circumstances children have no influence on.
Now on to Petit Pays, another childhood story by @gaelfaye about a Burundian childhood as a biracial child of a Tutsi mother before the genocide.
