Very uncool. No influence.
Just recording my running for me.

Just a runner girl stoked on commuter priority pathways.
•
Prioritised rest today (one night shift to go, I am deceased) so it was another dark run but this time I stayed in my own suburb and headed back to the PA Hospital Bikeway and turned it into a 5km out and back. Very easy pace (partly because I was sure I was going to slide over on the wet ground and partly because I had large, junk food lunch too late in the day), settled in after a couple of kilometres and had a thoroughly enjoyable (very sweaty) run. I hope to have the best sleep of my life tomorrow and re-emerge as a human by mid week.

It is impossible to avoid hills in Brisbane.
•
Especially from my Woolloongabba start line I have to go up just to leave my street. Lucky I am partial to a bit of an incline. Got out on dusk today and didn't get rained on although it was very quickly evident how tired my body is. Managed 6km in lovely cool conditions down to South Bank, over Goodwill, through the City Gardens to the KP Bridge and back along the river to my finish line at the bottom of my hill. Not so speedy but the Garmin was complimentary regardless and it was nice to move after barely dragging myself out of bed today. Second last shift of this block, counting down to days off and feeling able to go for a proper run.

Ran late to sleep more. Got rained on. Still tired.
•
Actually had a great sleep for most of the day (I have historically not been a great post night shift sleeper), got up and refuelled with delicious fried chicken (and of course a refreshing stroll to collect it) before another nap. Had thought I might do a longer run then snoozed my alarm a lot and decided a shorter run would be fine. Headed down to South Bank but crossed at Goodwill to avoid the Saturday night crowds and then changed my route slightly right at the last minute to head towards KP, then the rain started and I couldn't see. Finished at the bottom of my neighbourhood hill quite soggy and with a cruisey 6km on the Garmin. Glad I got to six but definitely couldn't have gone more. I hadn't realised how fatigued I am until I started moving, of course it felt easier as I settled in and I did love the rain even if it was briefly so heavy I couldn't see. Now off to survive another night!

All good runs start with saying hi to the neighbourhood void 🐈‍⬛️
•
Got called in for overtime so had to reshuffle today's run plans. Coming down the hill from home I said a brief hello to my favourite neighbour and kept moving. I had thought I might do a longer dusk run then have little nap but I lost four hours so it became an easy 5km along the KP cliffs in surprisingly cool conditions. Now I am ready for whatever the night throws at me.

The real shift work life begins. It's almost like I am a real nurse again.
•
Slept in, muggy midday run and work until 11pm. Chose the easy terrain, low brain power South Bank 5km option and was rewarded with the Banjo CityDog hanging out with a KittyCat and the KangaCat cruising past. Grey skies meant it was sweaty work without the death by burning sun. Let's see how enthusiastic I feel about running before night shift tomorrow.

The one where we had to change the course to suit Zara Larsson...
•
And I am definitely not mad about it. Made it home from work in time to run to Felons for run club. I did know the Zara Larsson concert was on but I hadn't quite twigged how much congestion there would be. The middle of my 4km run commute was spent navigating excited girlies in sequins and you know what, good for them. I passed @aussiebecka and @majormarc13 on route to their marshal spot in the Gardens, I warned them there was no gap in the line as it filled the path we run on. Thanks to some quick thinking our 5km Felons Run Club course became an out and back along the river side instead. As usual I went to hard with a bit of rage running navigating the crowd but felt good to push and sweat out the humidity in a nice breeze. Well done to the @club_kt volunteer team for getting us all sorted and congratulations to all the girlies having a great night, sequins never go out of style.

Lately I have been the most moist I have ever been in my life.
•
And I have to say I'm loving it. The radiant, hot sun is not my jam but once it dusk and there is a little bit of a breeze there is no better feeling than running in so much humidity that you sweat for hours after your run and you can't see through the salt in your eyes. Despite an almost immediate hair malfunction (fixed without stopping) I had a lovely 5km jog from home, along South Bank and back again, with a Vulture St finish line because there was no way I was running up the hill to home. Dead from work (19,000 steps before run), a bit concerned I irritated my achilles by wearing squishy shoes but I won't be skipping a run and shift work won't defeat me.

Just getting high off local infrastructure.
•
Tomorrow is the big day at work, go live for the Royal (it is going to be great) so I felt compelled to stay local for tonight's run to prepare instead of heading off to run club. I mapped myself a little 5km course with Coles as the finish line to put some lunch in my empty fridge and inadvertently created the most fun local run I have had since moving to the Gabba! The Princess Alexandra Hospital Bikeway connects to the veloway/walking path that starts at my place and leads back to Dutton Park and it is so sick! Divided pedestrian and bike sections, views of the PA Hospital, green light priority at the only major intersection, it runs right next to the PA bus station where the buses then zip into their cute little tunnel, it is also next to the still under construction Crossriver Rail site with a cool closed off pathway to nowhere before it reconnects to Annerly Rd with great views of the city and the chance to bomb downhill back to Wooloongabba to my supermarket finish line. Despite the glorious breeze it was a very sweaty run and I could definitely feel my glutes and quads after yesterday's trails, my left hip decided to be clicky early on but it settled as I warmed up, I easily got into the swing of it and had the most brain switched off, loving life, stoked on exploring run I have had in ages. Bring on a hectic 6 weeks. Life is good and I am so excited about everything coming my way between now and the end of the year.

I have never been so hot at 7am and still had so much fun!
•
I have always eyed off the SEQ Trail Running Series from afar in Victoria, contemplating a summer of Queensland trips to join in and yet now that I am here I almost didn't enter. Thanks to my colleague (and fellow running enthusiast) Lee suggesting we do a team activity before go live I finally joined for race 1 of season 14. I did sign up at the last minute and then the rest of the work team were suckered in by my discount code and joined too. Of course we had a great group of @club_kt girlies running. Everyone did so well. It was heaps of fun to have both work pals and running buddies to cheer for. I did the 13km long course which was a very hilly and dusty out and back on the west side of Enoggera Reservoir mostly on sections of trail I have run before. According to the @strava segments I ran every bit faster than I have on previous runs so I feel like in the race with myself I have done well (even if I was not fast compared to almost everyone else). The middle of the course was quite exposed and the sun was spicy which slowed me down but I was passing people as I power hiked the ups and was able to move better once we got back into the shade. I have never been so sweaty or dusty in my life but I absolutely had a great time. This is what my 'year of easy trail running' was meant to be!

Celebrating a parkrun course PB with a dip in the pool.
•
Each month the @club_kt x @th7.au Saturday Social includes running to New Farm parkrun and back, then a recovery session at TH7, followed by breakfast at @freddies.place_. This month I happened to run a New Farm parkrun course PB, it wasn't that fast so it surprised me and I assumed it was just a @strava segment PB initially. But it's actually 24 seconds faster than my previous New Farm PB (from the first time I attended in April 2023) and of the six times I have run at New Farm I have only gone sub-30 three times (two of which were this year) so I am actually quite pleased with my official time of 28:31 (and best age grade percentage at New Farm too). It can be a tricky parkrun being an out and back on a popular public path and in warmer weather (like today) it can be very spicy, very early in the sun but it is lovely running alongside the river. With a run from and to TH7 (we took the shady way back) a 10.5km morning meant our recovery session in the sauna and the contrast pools with @dr.hydrate slushies was much needed and our Freddie's breakfast (I had the breakfast tacos) was well earned. Just what I needed to start a relaxing Saturday.

Totally feeling those Friday vibes.
•
What a glorious morning running the Hamilton route for @club_kt Walk Run Club this week. Did we see Mark Waugh? We absolutely did not. But did it mean everyone got over excited early in the run trying to work out if a random man was him and we ran the whole 45 minutes way too fast? Yes indeed. Ended up with 7.9km (plus an extra 2km running from coffee to work) and @strava tells me I set some segment PBs which is nice because it actually felt like a pretty cruisey run (I could feel we were going a bit faster but it didn't feel bad). It is 'ice blocks at the end' season now followed by coffee chats at @freddies.place_ and then all of a sudden it has been a great start to the day and off to work for the last day of the week. Perfect!

The best part of the commute was in my own neighbourhood 🐈‍⬛️🐈 (and that's saying something).
•
Mapped myself a little 10km run commute home, starting in Herston to join the Enoggera Creek Cycleway. Almost convinced myself I left work too late to do the whole thing and to just do the direct commute instead but (despite the massive hill) I am very glad I did. I quickly realised I was on a parkrun course and eventually twigged it was Kelvin Grove (a very nice one, shady for summer) before turning into Red Hill which it turns out is aptly named because it is one f-ing giant hill (I did have to walk a little). Then I got to cruise down Petrie Terrace, over the William Jolly Bridge (new to me) and back onto South Bank to head home. And because it was a commute I could totally justify the stop to say hello to my local neighbourhood gargoyles who were sitting right opposite each other (I don't think they live in the same house). I didn't see the gimge until I went to walk away. It was an excellent adventure and a cruisey run seeing sections of Brisbane I don't often visit from another angle. I will absolutely never use that route again but isn't that the joy of a run explore? Now I can test a different route next time.
