10 years ago on June 12th, 49 souls lost their lives at Pulse Nightclub. I was dating a man at the time and I thought we were gonna get married and my sexuality would be irrelevant beyond my immediate friends and lovers... I remember my friends and community grieving, holding each other, and checking in. I remember feeling unseen by some in the weight of this grief...I remember realizing how easily I could die with my family never knowing.

10 years ago I came out to my family. I am so grateful I did... It wouldn't be long after that that I would dance in the confetti of the life I had once lived and pivot every day toward more freedom.

10 years out feels ... Fucking delightful.
But escaping the ⚪⛪cis hetero patriarchal poison to be quieter, to be palatable, to be perfect and uncomplicated, and to perpetuate that expectation onto ourselves and others so we allllll stay in line is an active interrogation. Even in my big gay acab life that I have worked so hard for and am so proud of.

The poison is inside my brain in a way I am deeply uncomfortable with, and it is my artistic and spiritual fuel.

Happy 10 years lil Amie 😘 let's go 10 more.

Still wrapping my head around the success of Saturday's @amearcana Break The Binary show at @industrialartsbrewing !!!!
Thank you for making it such an incredible night.
I feel so proud of this project 😭 and so proud of how each of us showed up, honestly and authentically, supporting one another. Not overriding our needs but naming them.
Cub scout rules applied, I am better than I was before 🐻
