Born and raised in Richmond, I’ve been coming to the 2nd Street Festival since I was a kid. To now create the festival poster for the third time is a full circle moment I don’t take lightly. I’m grateful and honored to share my work with the city that raised me. Thank you @venturerichmond and @2ndstreetfest staff!!!

This year, as we celebrate the festival’s 38th anniversary, 38 black piano keys frame the poster, one for each year. The bass holds the tempo, and the trumpet carries the sound of culture, community, legacy, and celebration.

I’m proud to present “Notes from the Deuce.”

I look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones this weekend. One love, always!

The 2026 #2ndStreetRVA poster was commissioned to Amiri Richardson-Keys (@amiri.life), an artist based in Richmond who celebrates and elevates the profound beauty, resilience and strength of the African American community with a particular focus on Black women, children and the essence of the Black family.

🚨 Official posters and t-shirts will ONLY be available to purchase at the @VentureRichmond tent on 2nd Street during the festival and at @Plan9Music Carytown after the fest.

“Reaching For Grace”

This painting came to me long before it ever reached the canvas. It has been a quiet vision that has followed me as I transitioned from being known primarily as an artist into the work of becoming an art therapist. It felt less like an idea I created and more like an image I was entrusted to bring into the world.

The hand is my own. It represents my reaching, not from a place of desperation, but from love, memory, and faith. It is the same hand that paints, comforts, teaches, and now sits beside others as they navigate their own healing. It reaches toward those who shaped me: my mother, whose gentle presence still surrounds me; my grandmother and aunts, whose wisdom continues to guide my spirit; and my father, whose recent passing has deepened my understanding of grief, love, and legacy. Though they are no longer physically here, I often feel them just beyond my fingertips.

Resting lightly on my hand is the monarch butterfly, a symbol of transformation, resilience, and the enduring nature of the soul. The monarch reminds us that change is not the end of a story but the continuation of one. Its migration across generations mirrors the way love, strength, and wisdom are passed from one life to another. For me, the butterfly becomes a messenger,an affirmation that those we love never truly leave us but continue to accompany us in quieter, more sacred ways.

The vast white space surrounding the image is intentional. It creates room for stillness, reflection, and breath, allowing viewers to bring their own memories into the work. It is in that openness that healing often begins.

This piece is ultimately about presence. It reminds me that every time I reach to help another person heal, I am also being held by those who came before me. My hand may be visible, but it carries generations within it. Their love continues to guide my work, and through that guidance, I hope others find the courage to reach, to heal, and to transform.

Honored and grateful to share this platform for with my oldest son, @amiri__richardsonkeysjr. Our father-son exhibition is now on display at Serenity Hall Art Gallery at St. Mary’s Hospital.

This collection represents more than artwork, it reflects legacy, creativity, faith, storytelling, and the power of generations creating side by side. Seeing our work displayed together is a reminder that art has the ability to connect us, inspire us, and preserve the stories we carry forward.

Honored to contribute this mailbox piece for the HomeAgain @homeagainrichmond “Shindig for Shelter Art Auction”. This work was created around the ideas of home, resilience, transformation, and belonging. Using bold color, pattern, and butterflies as symbols of growth and hope.

The auction is currently live through Friday,(link is the bio of @homeagainrichmond ) and every piece helps support families working toward housing stability and a place to call home. Grateful to be part of a project where art and community meet with purpose.
