We often rely on the virtues of our ancestors. They are a means of pride, power and privilege. Alhamdulillah we can mention their names. From their actions we have courage. From their virtue we have honor. You, oh reader, will die. This is certain. Doubtless. What will you offer as an ancestor? When your descendants mention your name, will they feel honor or shame? Will they even mention you at all? Will they be able to lean on you in times of hardship? What we do now will determine what we’ll be able to offer our descendants then.

You will be someone’s ancestor. Act accordingly. by @amirsulaiman

We at Soul City Arts were very excited about hosting Amir Sulaiman but we bring you the bad news that, due to unforeseen circumstances, he is unable to attend.

Here is a personal video recording from Amir himself explaining his circumstances.

We appreciate your support and will be giving you a full refund for your tickets.

HOWEVER, we are still gathering for a sharing session which will include the planned screening of Amir’s short film, and then the stage will be open for others to share. We really hope that you will still be able to join us this evening simply as our guests.

We would love to still have you experience the space beautifully lit with our multiple digital screens in place.

We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience this has caused. We are also extremely disappointed. taken in Soul City Arts by @amirsulaiman

Bismillah. With the name of Allah, The Most Gracious, The Most Merciful. Prayers and peace be upon His beloved servant and messenger and peace upon those who heed guidance.

I embarked on the sacred pilgrimage of Hajj last year. Although this is a once in a lifetime experience for many this hajj was a result of a breakfast conversation with my friend (and and executive producer of this album) Haroon Mokhtarzada. I was accompanied by my beloved brother, profound artist @omarmullick. The real story of this hajj is too much for a caption but one I promise to tell on another day.

The peak moment of the hajj is not visiting the Kaba, although that is the most iconic image of hajj. The climax of hajj is Mount Arafat. This is the place where our mother and father, Adam and Eve met once again after they were cast out separately from the Garden. The title for this album RETURN TO ARAFAT is both a description and a command. Return to what makes us most human. Return to the reunion of love. Every self shall taste death. From Allah we come and to Allah we are returning. by @amirsulaiman

This is Salaam Square.

For more than six decades, this corner of East Atlanta has been home to community life. A place where peace isn’t just spoken - it’s lived. In the way we greet each other. In the prayers we share. In the businesses we’ve built and the families we’ve raised.

We made this short film to capture something that’s hard to put into words. Quiet moments before the shops open. Kids heading to school. Families on their porches. The rhythm of a community that’s been doing this for generations.

Executive Producer @ihsansaleem wanted you to feel what it’s like to be here. To walk these streets. To hear the call to prayer echo through the neighborhood. To witness what happens when people intentionally choose to live close, not just side by side, but soul to soul.

Grateful beyond words to have the voice and poetry of @amirsulaiman give language to something we’ve always felt. And thank you to Morgan Mathews @directedbymorgan (director), Artina Michelle @artinamichelledp (DP), and the entire production team for seeing Salaam Square the way we see it - with warmth, with dignity, with care.

This film is for the people who built this place. For the ones who are still building. And for anyone who believes that real community is still possible.

Welcome to Salaam Square.

We are ours.

Alhamdulillah. YOU WILL BE SOMEONE’S ANCESTOR ACT ACCORDINGLY is my first album in almost 10 years. It is a 6 track journey into loving and losing, beauty and breaking, flying and falling. I love it.

I’m deeply grateful to @robertglasper who executive produced it. The amazingly talented @chrisdaddydave on drums and @dhodgeworld on bass. I’ve only dreamt of creating with Meshell Ndegecello and @lauramvula and it happened on this album. My dear sisters and long time collaborators @mumufresh and @drea_dnur came through and blessed me so beautifully. To top it all off brother @dsmoke7 came through and lit a track on fire. Blessing to brother @qmillion1 making sure we sound our best. May the Most High bless all those that contributed to this project and all of you who enjoy it and all of you who share it. Available everywhere. Make love. Spread love. by @amirsulaiman
