SABISHA Book, 2025.

A portrait of the multidisciplinary artist Sabisha Friedberg in studio in New York and in Paris.

This first edition of this new series entitled CATALYST is an exploration of those who have driven the trajectory of other’s lives by their particular vision. The portrait sessions are taken in intimate settings; in their worlds, their studios and in the streets of the cities their work has developed.

The entirety of the book is photographed on 35mm and 120 film in black and white and colour.

This book launches my new series CATALYST which explores those whose vision has profoundly shaped the trajectories of others’ lives and practices.

I’ve been documenting the multidisciplinary artist Sabisha Friedberg in her studios in New York and Paris and this book is the culmination of those sessions.

SABISHA emerged from a desire to excavate the origins of my photographic practice. What began as documentation of Friedberg’s work evolved into an exploration of identity and persona through the photographic act.

SABISHA is a portrait and mirror; a meditation on photography itself while presenting an artist whose practice continues to influence. The photographs of Sabisha unveil her life as an artist and musician, exploring the balance between intimate studio moments and public presentation — the creation of the interior and exterior, all of which are a part of artistic practice.

I am excited to announce the release of my first monograph of personal work, Amended Record.

The book will be launched in an exhibition opening March 7th at The Jones Institute in San Francisco.

Amended Record is a ballad of landscapes and abstracts taken from a two day shoot
photographing in the California that I was born into in the early 1970’s.

In my last books on Paris and Tokyo, I asked others to hand draw me a map to a place that was significant for them personally. In this project, I turn those parameters upon my own life and trace lines back to the significant locations that catalyzed my early life in California.

It is a story of amendment, the act of a returnee-a dance with light and space to create a new sense of place.

The exhibition runs March 7-27, by appointment only.

Amended Record Book, Stockton, CA. 2020.

The book is a ballad of landscapes and abstracts photographed in Stockton, California; the city that I was born into in the early 1970’s.

I turned the paradigm of my first map books upon myself, posing the same question- tracing lines back to places that catalyzed my early life in California.

Amended Record is an investigative research into location. This exploration delineated what bound me to time and place and by returning and retracing these streets I was able to claim them for myself.

The off-ramp of a freeway.
Her grandparent’s trailer.
Hammer Lane.
His car in the covered carpark.
St. Joseph's.
The doorstep of her family house.
Miracle Mile.
The blossoms of trees
in the almond orchards.
Beehives
and the moon.

1975.

The entire book was photographed on 35mm and 120 film and released as a Limited edition zine with an exhibition in March 2021 @jones_institute in San Francisco curated by Aida Jones.
