ARTISTS IN RESIDENCE - AMI SIOUX & DAI SAKAI “Riding through the small roads in Ubud filled with scooters, passing the myriads of Penjor suspended above the asphalt; the roads pulling deeper into the jungle, the architecture of each temple-an endless repetitive geometry, smells of incense and bamboo burning. Turning through small back houses and neighbourhoods, curious eyes reaching towards us as we speed by and then a sharp left turn beside a banyan tree and the parking lot of the waterfall appears. Climbing down together to the basin of the valley we arrive to the chasm of the waterfall cut deep into the rock and we explore. I climb deeper into the cave to find Dai climbing. The majestic sense of the height of the waterfall plays with one’s eyes-it only becomes apparent when I stand from a distance...and as he climbs, I click.” - Ami Sioux The part of photographer and director Ami Sioux’s work that has always resonated the strongest with us is her documentary work from her life and travels in the US, Japan, Europe and beyond. Whether beautifully curated in books such as the brilliant ‘From the Road’, or personal photographic journeys in Japan for Purple Travel magazine, life seen through her gaze is just a little more interesting and captivating. As one of the first artists in residence at Rumah Hujan, we invited Ami Sioux and her partner, art director and designer Dai Sakai, to explore a series of road trips all within a 59 minute radius from Rumah Hujan. #luxurytravel #baliroadtrip #baliwaterfall #goarajawaterfall
