Part 2! The Kalyanam!

The actual wedding event was so goddamn beautiful, but had a few flaws! There were too many people making too many decisions about the simplest of things.
But I was marrying my best friend!

While they were welcoming Rahul, I was made to sit behind the temple, where @pinch_sarcastic @_aa_nand__ gave me company, and I wouldn't have had it any other way! They kept asking me if I was tensed, if I needed anything! Nitin was even busy googling and asking ChatGPT about rituals that the bride needed to know about! 😂 Just so that he could make me comfortable!
But I wasn't tensed! I have attended at least a 100 weddings in my lifetime!
And more importantly, I was marrying my best friend!

The rituals were chaotic! But it didn't really matter!
Because I was marrying my best friend!

And I had no clue my kozhikkunjungal had spoken to the video team, it was the best feeling in the world to see that afterwards! @vaishuv__ & @narayani_mahesh

🧿 I genuinely believe that I am the sum total of every single person I've had the opportunity to be in close proximity with. And for someone who believes in the Butterfly Effect, it made sense to include most of the people in our lives that probably led us to this moment

This isn’t just a Save the Date, it’s a small thank you to the universe (and to you!) for being a part of our story in ways big and small.

Whether you cheered us on, teased us endlessly, lent an ear, a meme, or just good energy, thank you. Because somehow, all of it led us here!

Stop and smell the KPIs | I’ve been compiling a playlist of choreography-worthy songs called ‘Someday’ for years, and a couple of months ago I decided - why not now? These little experiments are bringing me community, reigniting my love for dance/music/art/film and push me to create when no one’s watching. _Especially_ if no one’s watching.

Gathering folks felt like asking my friends to come play with me, and I’m so grateful I keep finding the most beautiful humans to create with ✨

Just 3 crown-fixers dancing together 🤌🏽🤌🏽🤌🏽
Big fat thanks to @thepatakaproject for bringing incredible teachers to London and to @simrandevnani who makes it all look so easy! And obviously to my co-goofer ✨❤️

Coming back from a dance hiatus and doing this class was an overwhelming experience for sure! But what an environment the main queen created! @enettedsouzadance you fully upped our expectations from teachers ❤️

But tiny little memories created in my tiny little heart because I got to see @_agirlwholives_ living her fullest while dancing, letting go and smiling and freaking out and anxious and laughing and enjoying, and because I got to experience another small dose of @just.lailaaaaaa on a random Saturday! And trust me when I say this, we all need a dose of @just.lailaaaaaa once in a while! ❤️ And who knew Kathak and Latin dancing styles could be fused to create something so amazing ✨ taken in The MANOR LDN by @ammuvenugopal

One year of husband privileges! 😎

And yes, I still haven’t figured out how to make him look at me the way he looks at Goku (send help).

Our days now start with Goku duties. They end with a full debrief of everything that happened since we split up for work that morning. Simple. Elegant. Us.

A bit about Rahul.
He’s loud with his love, and not just with me, with literally everyone he meets. Wants to tell the whole world everything, and wants to share every single bite of food with everyone, always (I do not always agree with this policy 😩). But strip away the noise and what’s left is just the most honest, kind human I know.

We are definitely not a ‘lovey-dovey’ couple as they say! What we do on a daily basis is tease each other relentlessly, and have a lot of fun with everything that we do - eating, going out, swimming, games - always, and to anyone watching it probably looks like a bit. It’s not. It’s just us. Best friends and secret keepers since the day we started this, and I think that’s exactly what makes the love underneath it so fierce.

We’ve both lost people who shaped who we are - him, his Achan, me, my Valliachan - and somewhere in showing up for each other through that, everything after just changed the course of our relationship and our lives to be honest!

So proud of you this year, Rahul. Here’s to more of us. Always. ♥️

One year since the wedding eve. 🪔

The night before the kalyanam, there’s a small ritual where you thank your elders. I stood there and thanked every person who’d traveled to that tiny village in North Kerala for us - because that’s exactly what they did, crossed real hurdles to be there, for my parents. I looked at my Amma and Achan that night and they were just so proud. I hope I spend the rest of my life making sure that never changes.

Weddings are chaotic no matter what, but if there’s one thing I took away from ours, it’s how my family moves through the world. My Achan, the quietest, steadiest man I know - he doesn’t raise his voice, doesn’t need to be the loudest in the room to be the strongest in it. Ten plus years ago when Amma was going through cancer, he was the one who locked our gate and told the whole world to wait outside, because her health came before anyone’s comfort. He’s been doing some version of that ever since - quietly choosing her, every single time, no explanations needed.

And then there’s my brother, who loves loudly and never quietly. I won’t pretend I agreed with everything about how he handled this year - some things are better said calmly, and I’ve learned that the hard way myself. But I can’t be angry at anyone for loving Amma and Achan too much to stay silent.

My mother did the Kailash trip just months before the floods hit Nepal. Same route, same stops, same guesthouses - all of them gone now, along with so many lives. I don’t think I’ve said it out loud enough: I’m just so grateful she’s here. Some things really do put everything else in perspective.

A year on, I just wanted to say thank you - Amma, Achan, and my brother - for moving mountains so that one day could be everything I dreamed of, and for teaching me what it means to stand by your people, loudly or quietly, no matter who’s watching. I love you all beyond words, and I hope I keep making you proud.
