COUNTERCLOCKWISE / @paul_waak
27.09-11.10.2025 / @aktionshaus_
Curated by @lucie_van_freynhagen
📸 @amn______

Paul Waak’s exhibition *COUNTERCLOCKWISE* presented a retrospective featuring paintings and selected “new additions” in both senses of the word. As part of a curatorial concept developed specifically for the Aktionshaus, the horizon—which is otherwise usually perceived as rigid and fixed—is placed in a physical, artistic, and curatorial state of obliquity, thereby making room for all the inclinations that break through the art canon in complex ways.

Last year I decided I was going to go on a few days holiday with Mio at least once a year. Just the two of us.

This year we stayed in a little Caravan in a small town called Altfriedland among lakes, gardens and centuries old churches.

Along the way we found this creek and ol' bridge. Mio really wanted to get to the other side but was debilitatingly nervous to do it. We talked it through, he built up the courage and did it despite his initial panicked fear. Seeing how proud he was of himself afterwards and excited at having done it, reminded me how much I love this little guy. It was just a small moment. Seemingly unimportant perhaps anecdotally as an IG post, but seeing the grin and pure joy of having climbed his own little mountain of self-doubt was just golden! Keeping this memory close for sure.

This little dude is just the best what can I say. by @amn______

Mio is really the most amazing little guy. Love him to bits and then some. Sure some days are absolutely mind numbingly frustrating, where all I want is even a second of silence and pause, but he breaks it all swiftly with a cheeky little smile.

Its got me thinking about whether to have a second child or not. whether life is enough just with him. I know that it is already, but there's this part in the brain that imagines him with a younger sibling or later in life as an old man watching two lives flow out into the world, two narratives unfolding and discovering what matters to them that feels wondrous...

Head and the heart stuff really. by @amn______

Instal for Time, Softening by @lnmngr

Drawing on her background in design and her fascination with language, Lena Manger takes inspiration from time capsules, utilising sound, imagery, and an anonymous personal log to generate an installation reminiscent of this format of attempted preservation.

In an accompanying publication, other artists contribute personal responses to this theme, mirroring this shared urge to make thoughts and feelings tangible, and to reach others through them, to form a capsule of their own, to be distributed and dispersed.
