World Rabies Day Awards 2026 | Meet our nominees | Amy Shroff

Amy leads Let's Save the Strays International with her team in Myanmar. She is nominated in the Small Scale Efforts category for her work combining dog vaccination and sterilization with veterinary training, education and dog population management.

Despite the challenges of civil war, extreme weather, fuel and supply shortages, and limited funds, Amy and her team continue to give a voice to voiceless animals!

My story as a founder begins with my family in India, where I witnessed the struggles of street dogs. I learned about Trap, Neuter, Vaccinate, Release—a humane way to help. Selling my emergency veterinary practice to BluePearl Veterinary Specialists, I was later asked to visit Myanmar. In 2017, culling was the norm, but when TNVR was introduced, communities embraced it. We now also educate veterinary students and children in humane care. My life now revolves around this work. Myanmar is in crisis, and we hope our work serves as a model to help other countries too. 🖤Did you know that saving a life can heal you too ?
I’m here in Myanmar, away from my own family, but alongside the Let’s Save The Strays team who feel like my second family.

😍This year, I feel deeply thankful for what I have witnessed and been part of, and for every animal and person whose life has been touched because of your support.

❤️Watching people care for their stray animals every day, in all kinds of weather, stays with me. In a place where so many are living under strain, these small, consistent acts of care make a real psychological difference. Kindness steadies the nervous system. It strengthens empathy. It reminds people, and me too, that connection still exists even in difficult conditions.

👍Being here has reinforced something I already believed. Compassion heals the dogs, the people who care for them, and those of us who support that work.

🐶This Thanksgiving, I give thanks for what has been made possible because of you.

🩷Giving Tuesday and Myanmar has a MATCHING OPPORTUNITY FOR UP TO $10,000!❤️

Tomorrow is Thanksgiving in the US, then Black Friday and then Giving Tuesday where allll the organizations vy for your eyes…

But Myanmar?
❤️‍🩹Almost no one is talking about Myanmar this Giving Tuesday.

🩷And yet here, miles away from most of our supporters, free-roaming homeless dogs and cats are fighting for survival every single day — facing poisoning, violent conflict, and suffering that also puts children at risk of rabies.

🩷But something powerful is happening here.

❤️‍🔥We have started a movement.

🩷A movement among the Burmese people themselves — who in reality deeply love their community dogs. These animals are not invisible to them.

🩷This is not a one-hit success story.
As I write this from my hotel room. Dogs we treated today are alive tonight.

🩷And tomorrow, before the sun rises, we go back out again to check on the animals we helped.

🙏🏻This Giving Tuesday, we are asking you to GIVE — not because it’s close, but because it matters.

Give to a country no one else is spotlighting.
Give to lives that would otherwise go unseen.

I want to wish a very special person a super Happy Birthday!!! Lou Bono with Animals Australia has been a true lifesaver for so many beautiful animals not just in Australia but in Myanmar. Lets Save the Strays International has been on the receiving end of so much support in so many ways.
We love you Lou and we hope this trip around the sun has been a great one and that we will meet someday soon!!! Jesu jesu from all of us in Myanmar!

The team at Lets Save the Strays International in Mandalay, Myanmar, is a shining example of the impact we can have when we come together to help those in need. Their tireless efforts to make a difference are a daily source of inspiration for me. Yesterday- @letssavethestrays held its first large scale education day at a local school in Yangon. We used posters, colorkng pages to show how dogs behave and how to humanely and safely treat them.
