The Hammered Hulls stopped by.
I know that, just like at my house, on tour (and everywhere else) they leave a long and lasting wake of joy after they head off.

Thanks for the hang! ❤️❤️

After I un-died from eating the toadstool, I thought I would try out this slimy blue-black beauty. That’s when things got crazy: street signs in 1,2, and sometimes 3 languages. Building ornamentation gone berserk. Mossy dark pine forests suddenly revealing climbable lines. Ant-sized people on beautiful arêtes. And a huge round wood barrel in the city square for rituals. So why not try some final lingon berries before the bronze-capped gem? Magic. by @amy_pickering

🇫🇮 Finland!! 🇫🇮

The most forested nation in the world is a magical fairyland, full of climbing, natural wonders and, mushrooms! So many porcinis.
Then we tried the red one and so now we’re dead. It was fun! :)

Correction:: there are a damned lot of trees here but Finland is not the tops in percentage of forest. In 2020, that distinction went to Russia, just nextdoor. by @amy_pickering

From the Dolomites to Arco, lots of climbing (the Youth Worlds there) and seeing old friends and beautiful places… It’s been a great trip (hot though).

“Five decades of climbing will humble you… but you keep going. Not to chase grades, but to stay connected to who you are.”

I sat down with Russ recently, and our conversation felt like listening to the quiet heartbeat of climbing across half a century.

We talked about:
• What it meant to grow up in the Gunks before modern sport climbing
• His unexpected trip to compete in Cold War Russia
• The brief era of those “untold free solos” in the 80s
• And how he’s still performing — and still in love with climbing — at 66

Nothing flashy.
Nothing myth-making.
Just real stories, perspective, and a lifetime of showing up for the sport.

Russ’s book The Lifer is excellent, and this episode is very much in that spirit — reflective, grounded, and full of the kind of wisdom that only comes from decades on rock.
