POSTS STORIES REELS TAGGED
The first wave coverage continues with another historic band. On the page today we cover Fire Party and their short lived legacy and impact. The band formed in 1986 and disbanded in 1988, but during that time period they became the first all female emo band.

They hailed out of Washington DC and are often considered part of the roster of bands post revolution summer, but their importance cannot be understated. All the emo bands up to this point had primarily been male dominated and here comes a group that’s challenging gender norms with their lyrics that speak from a female perspective.

Their sound would also blend styles of post punk and even riot girl. It gave emo a new look and sound and would be a huge stepping stone as the genre evolved. After Fire Party broke up, we would see bands like Ashes, Dahlia Seed, Endive continue to build on their groundwork and push the sound as the second wave began.

The lead singer of Fire Party, Amy Pickering had been involved in Discord mail order since 1982 and it was only a matter before she started a band of her own. She’s also been credited as coining the term “Revolution” summer.

If you’re a fan of the first wave sound and want to hear a fresh take on that era, Fire Party broke new ground and gave girls a place in a male dominated scene.

This CD I posted today collected all their work during their 2 year period. It was released in 1996. @dischordrecords

It really is great to be back to the Dolomites after so many years, but man, is it ever busy! I’m afraid the meatwagons were likely on their way to a motorcycle crash judging from the way many were riding. But a lovely day with @amy_pickering on a jaunt up an easy route. And hard to beat the views! Thanks @gunksapps for the route suggestion!
