'Honey' won best specialist single subject cookbook at the Guild of Food Writers Awards! ✨️ I'm over the moon. Receiving particular praise on the strength & quality of my recipe writing was extra special; 'It could have been Delia' knocked me for six 😱 I couldn't be more grateful. Thank you @thegfw 🙏 Congratulations to the other winners, nominees and their teams, it's a privilege to be amongst you. A huge thank you to my brilliant Honey team, this one's for you. I spent yesterday in shock tucked up in bed with a packet of ginger nuts processing it all...now it's time to clear the crumbs & get on with book 2 I think? 🤓

Honey's little sister is officially here! With 25% off pre-orders until Friday 24th July at Waterstones (using code SUMMER26 - link in my bio), but much more importantly, with @mainlybreakfast's lovely cover illustration 🍯 Emma also assisted @tamara_vos food styling for big sis Honey back in 2022, so it is especially lovely to commission a wee honey pot illo for this sweet new edition. Thank you Emma 💛 I will share more as soon as I get my hands on a copy :)
From its intro:
‘little honey’ is full of golden spoonfuls and impassioned musings from its big sister. In the 3 years that have passed since releasing my debut cookbook, the contemporary relevance of the story of honey only seems to grow. As international conflicts continue to fracture our already struggling food systems, a universal truth remains - the vital importance of our intrinsic interconnectedness, both with the natural world and each other." A book cover design featuring a hand-drawn illustration of a honey jar full of golden honey, with a white paper top, blue string bow and wooden honey twizzler, lying in a puddle of honey, against a golden orange and off-white background. The cover text reads: Artisan Kitchen. Honey - Timeless recipes from a beekeeper's kitchen' by Amy Newsome. by @amynewsome_

Glorious morning at Hilldrop 🐝 thank you @grassroofco @bennyhawksbee and @cammccreadie for the last min ticket. A joy to see the place brimming with bees and gardeners. Loved John's words on *reasonable maintenance* over the mean-joyless-gardener-erasing 'low maintenance', investing in gardeners, and how biodiversity net gain criteria needs to change to factor in the incredible ecosystems of gardened landscapes, as evidenced in the entomological surveys @greatdixterofficial @kneppwilding and Hilldrop to name a few. Sage words from John and Benny on honeybees, and where 'save the bees' fervour should head next. Many people still tell me I'm saving the bees just by being a beekeeper, which to quote Dave Goulson (I believe) is a little like telling a chicken farmer they're saving wild song birds. Saving the bees as a slogan was born in American Big Ag - an industry cry to highlight farmed hives dying in greater numbers whilst being trucked between vast monocultures. It took flight as a catchy phrase with its teenage years characterised with the rooftop city beekeeping craze. Like any mass trend, it was (is) unsustainable and often very misguided. However I like to think 'save the bees' is now growing up, and learning some self-awareness as we all do as we mature. People like John and Benny do their best to direct the sustained groundswell of public awareness and excitement onto our wild bees and wider fauna, who have always needed it most. We had Dixter almost to ourselves this morning after the rain 🌿 Filled my cup to the brim with horticultural delight, as always. Fireworks of verbascum, fennel and kniphofia against thunderous skies. Glaucous weeping conifers in the exotic garden looking brooding and cool - a wonderful spot to hide from the heat of the day. Arts & Crafts gardens are my favourite, with some personal bias having grown up toddling around Hidcote. Blindingly riotous or tonally harmonious, they're full of heartfelt curiosity and play. Getting lost down narrow pathways under sprawling canopies, little steps between towering hedges and suddenly popping out into billowing long borders, you're never quite sure what little world is round the corner. A boxful of plants coming back with me to London, including rosa luciae and woodwardia 💚 taken in Great Dixter House and Gardens by @amynewsome_

Wild garlic wanderings & joyful springtime cookery, with my rustic tkmaxx bag. Some rural, some less remote - colonising the gravel of a neighbour's front garden. In my garden this morning, finely sliced into scrambled eggs, with a little creme fraiche, marmite toast, and a green sea of soleirolia lapping at my slippers. Perfectly sized stepping stones hewn by @freddie.gardens from the old patio foundation.

"The FT would like to talk to you about baked beans?" is one of the more surreal emails to land in my inbox 😅

Turns out Ajesh Patalay & the FT How to Spend It team had got wind of some surreal bean antics last summer...'Honey' & I were welcomed into the 64,000 strong Jamie Oliver's cookbook club and one particular recipe stole the show; my Broken Beans 🫘 Proud pics started flooding in on the global fb group, with keen Australian cooks explaining tinned baked beans to the Americans, a few (accurate) 'wait this is just beans with stuff?' observations, all culminating in a bougie beany fervour that coined a new era - 'Before Broken Beans' / 'After Broken Beans'. It's a fridge raid comfort dish for when you or someone you love is feeling a bit broken; a hug-on-a-plate 🤍 If you're the sort to feel the need to carve out 15 mins of culinary self-care whilst wfh (I-must-chop-something-!) this one's for you.

"Nigella Lawson mentioned you in a post" is a VERY enjoyable notification to wake up to! Thank you to THE culinary queen bee @nigellalawson 👑 for sharing my honey on toast ice cream (slide two) which is a comforting and nostalgic take on brown bread ice cream (IYKYK).
It's clearly high time I shared the rest of Honey's iced desserts to tempt you all, it's a collection I'm particularly fond of.
First up this blushing trio of spiked granitas - vodka/bitters/lime/eucalyptus honey; mezcal/hibiscus/blood orange/yucatan honey; campari/gin/watermelon/mint/acacia honey. Delightfully easy. Forkfuls straight from the freezer after dinner 👌
Next, the ice creams! After Nigella's favourite 🙃 there's burnt honey dulce for a smoooth bitter caramel fix, then roasted black sesame & ricotta with swirls of pomegranate molasses and bramble honey (the first recipe I wrote for Honey), and le grande finale...honey roast fig with amaretti AND amaretto 😎
The clincher? No ice cream machine required 🙌 Walk, don't run; link in bio 🍯
