You climb down the ladder and step into the dark water. Socks thankfully dry in your boots. The lights dance in the water illuminating the grey moss and other things living down here. Be quick the cameras already be feeding your image to the watchers. Solid footing is tricky and the wading is slow. Thankfully you already see your destination, a hole in the wall just above the waterline reveals a tiny home of sorts. The old frog sits watching you expectantly. Next Saturday, come join @amzeland and @corinneteed for our open studio! There will be snacks and small prints for sale. And there will be other studios open around the building to check out too, including @katiegarth @dos_tres_press @gustavo.garcia3 and @stellauntalan.art Address is 1241 Carpenter street and we are on the third floor.
Unfortunately, building is only accessible by 6 stairs into it. We are on the third floor and there is a freight elevator in the case someone needs a ride up. by @amzeland

In the early morning hours before any children are awake the all the sighs that were dropped the day before are harvested. These quiet exchanges of air containing both small moments of defeat are kept in a warehouse by the docks. Eventually they are individually packaged with unique mood flavors and put up on exclusive online marketplaces. They’ll send it to you in fun printed box with matching branding, and you can drain one into your personal atomizer and take hit and for just a moment feel something like authentic ennui. taken in Love City by @amzeland

A much belated website update featuring first pieces from a new body of work called Platform Capture. [Link in Bio.] We are changed by the tools we use. The shared intellectual space once occupied by print culture has migrated online, which in turn has revealed that we were the product being sold; our attention captured. And all of it is being fed into large learning models the ramifications of which we are only beginning to comprehend. Our current moment in history might be productively compared to the invention of the printing press in Europe, and the resulting century of tumult. That analogy is the foothold for this ranging body of work. I am trying to think through attention as a material and a commodity. I’m looking at platforms old and new. How can I compare the protocols of a book or historic publishing models to the present moment? How does it feel to have my own consciousness crosshatched across embodied and digital realities? We live in frames within frames.

Open Framework: Seven Philly Artists in Print brings together a dynamic group of Philadelphia-based artists exploring the expanded possibilities of printmaking. Featuring work by Alice Austin (@austin.alice), Alyse C. Bernstein (@alysecbernsteinstudio), Alexis Nutini (@dos_tres_press), Amze Emmons (@amzeland), Gustavo Garcia (@gustavo.garcia3), Katie Garth (@katiegarth), and Corinne Teed (@corinneteed). Across varied processes and styles, these artists use print as a flexible framework for experimentation.

It all comes back to rods and cones, I guess. Peripheral vision and night vision, they don’t get any better over time. It doesn’t matter how many carrots you eat. Which is too bad, because without either you tend to focus straight ahead, on where you are heading, trying to stay the light. It can make it scary when things get dark. But trust me, some of the most interesting things are in the periphery. And if you can hold steady long enough for your eyes to adjust then whole new constellations will start to emerge. And you might find yourself in good company. by @amzeland
