Anakbayan Montreal endorses the Oct 10 protest for Palestine 🇵🇸 ❤️‍🔥

📣 Join us on Saturday at 2:00 PM at The Ring (730 Cathcart) 📣

It has been 3 years since the start of Israel’s genocide and occupation in Gaza.

The government of Canada must be held accountable for continuing to enable and participate in the genocide. We must continue to show the Canadian and Quebec governments that we have not forgotten about their complicity.

We stand in solidarity the movement for Palestinian liberation and call on the following:
1) Canada enforces a two-way arms embargo on Israel
2) Canada implements sanctions on Israel
3) Quebec closes the Quebec Bureau (office) in Tel Aviv
4) All Palestinian political prisoners to be liberated from Zionist jails

Our resistance and solidarity for other resistance movements goes beyond borders because imperialism goes beyond borders too, from Palestine to the Philippines. by @anakbayanmtl

On this national day for truth and reconciliation, it is important to share the perspective as an activist. It’s important to open this dialogue about mental health to more than just our individual battles and link it to our history of colonial violence.

The film, Forgotten Island, talks a lot about the themes of separation and as Filipinos both born here and back in the Philippines, it’s important to ask ourselves why we are here. Why were some of us born here, why were some of us separated from our parents for 10 years, why is it so normalized to say goodbye to our friends and family and watch our relationships get torn apart.

Why does Raissa have to go to school in the US and not in the country? Ask ourselves, why are Filipinos forced to move abroad to seek better opportunities in North America while opportunity can be sought in the Philippines.

This story is one of countless stories of families that are separated and torn apart for years and even decades. There is a huge underlying source to our mental health issue.

Thank you so much to @centrekapwa for hosting this wonderful film screening of Forgotten Island and giving space for us Filipinos in the audience to share our experience in the roundtable discussion!

On September 30, the community gathered for the Every Child Matters March on the National Day of Truth and Reconciliation

This march also took place the same day that the Permanent Peoples' Tribunal on Missing and Disappeared children and Unmarked Graves in Canada delivered their final judgement stating that Canada has been committing genocide against Indigenous Peoples and that the government continues to violate their rights.

Canada inadequately funds the search for disappeared children, dispossess the Indigenous Peoples' of their lands while poisoning their water and failing to support the need for housing, healthcare, and services, and fails in their responsibility to educate the public about their historic and ongoing injustices.

As it stands, less than 15 of the 94 calls to action from the Truth and Reconciliation Commission of have been completed.

The same greed and disregard for human dignity that compels Canada to genocide the Indigenous Peoples also compels this country to militarize the Philippines, to plunder raw materials and labour from our lands, and further brutalize and subjugate the Filipino people. As such...

Anakbayan Montreal stands in solidarity with the Indigenous people of Canada

Education & Revolution is a free six-week course for educators presented by Remaking Education as Care, Emancipation, Struggle, and Solidarity (RECESS), with support from the Pan African Student Union, Socialist Unity, Migrante Quebec, and Anakbayan Montreal. The goal of the course is to compare the role of education in revolutionary resistance movements to its role in state projects established following the victory of such movements. Thank you to everyone that came to our reportback! Our members’ exposure trip to the Philippines earlier this year highlighted the desire of the youth to connect to their roots through integrating with the peasant, worker, and urban poor communities.

The discussion that was held after the presentation showed that we have similar struggles here in Canada. Our members shared their learnings from organizing in the Philippines and how we can apply that to our conditions here as the working class.

As crisis continue to heighten, in the Philippines, and here in the imperial core, we must not lose hope, instead we must get organized! by @anakbayanmtl

Montreal PSONA Highlights the Voices of Overseas Filipinos and Calls Out State Propaganda

MONTREAL, QC — BAYAN Canada member organizations and their allies in Montreal successfully held their annual People's State of the Nation Address (PSONA) on July 26 at Voyageur Provincial Park, bringing together overseas Filipinos and supporters for a day of political education, collective reflection, and community building.

As an alternative to the Philippine government's official State of the Nation Address, participants critically examined issues affecting the Filipino people, including the country's economic crisis, systemic corruption, attacks on Philippine sovereignty, and the government's failure to support workers, migrants, and other vulnerable sectors. Through a participatory teach-in, attendees collectively analyzed these issues before presenting their discussions through a creative street theatre performance.

Participants organized into small groups and selected representatives to portray satirical characters, including President Ferdinand Marcos Jr., members of political dynasties who continue to benefit from corruption, and activists exposing government propaganda while amplifying the people's demands. The performance underscored the role of culture and collective action in challenging official narratives and highlighting the lived realities of Filipinos both at home and abroad.

The program continued with a placard-making activity, where members and supporters created protest signs carrying messages such as "Marcos, tuta, diktador, pasista!" and "No to Pax Silica!" in preparation for future mobilizations.

Reflecting on the day's discussions, one participant shared:

"I've learned that our PSONA is not about experts telling me what my realities are as an overseas Filipino worker. We are the experts here, and even the president cannot lie to us about what we and our families are experiencing on the ground. While he, his cronies, and the political elite continue to enrich themselves through corruption, our voices remain unheard."

We went to sit at Mackenzie Park to practice the song "Kawayanan" by Ka-Ericson Acosta, as preparation for the reportback on tuesday next week! Our members who went to the Philippines learned this song during their exposure trip.

We will get to learn the other things they experienced in the communities back home, and we will sing this song!

Housing Rights Workshop Recap from July 11’s How to refuse rent increase

On July 11, 2026, we gathered with members of Migrante Quebec, Anakbayan Montreal, Pinay Quebec, and families from Bourret Avenue for a powerful housing rights info session presented by Project Genesis.

The Key takeaway: Don't sign anything before you know your rights!

There were valuable, big questions from the room:
- Which online tools can I use to find affordable apartments and compare rent increase?
- What protections exist if a landlord threatens deportation to a tenant?
- Do temporary foreign workers whose housing is tied to their employer have the same right to maintain occupancy as housing resident tenants?

Some questions need case-by-case follow-up, but one thing is clear: knowing your rights changes everything. Attendees left encouraged to connect with local community housing resources.

If you missed this workshop, stay tuned at the next assembly! by @anakbayanmtl
