🌾 DIARIES FROM OUR HOMELANDS: Recounting the truth on the conditions in the Philippines and Korea

🤝 Join the International League of Peoples’ Struggles (ILPS-US), Anakbayan Philadelphia, and Korea Peace Committee Philly (KPCP) to hear the stories from members of their organizations about their experiences and what they learned from their trips to the Philippines and Korea! Their trips exposed the impacts of U.S. militarism in both countries and how both governments’ priorities for profits reflect through the conditions on the ground. What is also important is what they saw on how the people are responding and how we should bring that fight back to the U.S.

🐃 RSVP at tinyurl.com/diariesfromhome for the location and other information.

🐅 It’s a potluck! Bring food and drinks. Utensils will be provided. taken in RSVP by @anakbayanphilly

Thank you to everyone that attended our “Palayain” film screening at @ulisesbookstore!

It was an important screening for us because yesterday marked the 35th anniversary of the removal of U.S. military bases in the Philippines due to the overwhelming anti-imperialist resistance of the Filipino masses.

35 years later, through unequal military agreements like the Visiting Forces Agreement (VFA) and the Enhanced Defense Cooperation Agreement (EDCA), the Philippine and the U.S. governments have been brought U.S. bases back to the archipelago, regularly revealing new U.S. bases while keeping many more of them secret from the public. The Marcos II regime is further selling out the Philippines to U.S. imperialist ambitions through more unequal military agreements, transforming the Philippines into an outpost for the U.S. military in the Asia Pacific.

It is clear that the U.S. bases in the Philippines are not benefiting the livelihoods of the Filipino masses. Fisherfolk are often disrupted and forced to stop fishing due to frequent U.S.-led military exercises or war rehearsals in Philippine waters. Farmers and indigenous peoples are being forcibly removed off their land when their land is deemed property of the U.S. military. Women and young girls face sexual and gender-based violence at the hands of U.S. military personnel, and the U.S. military protects these abusers so they do not face justice for their crimes.

The presence of the U.S. military is growing under the Marcos II regime as each year passes as the largest ever U.S.-led Balikatan military exercises were held in the Philippines this past April/May. As Filipinos, it is necessary to live up to our history and legacy of resistance so that we can also call for the removal of EDCA bases and the end of the VFA — military agreements that have been disastrous to the lives of Filipino people.

Stay tuned for more information about our report backs and educational discussions on how U.S. militarism operates in the Philippines with personal recounts from our members!

It has been a year since the flood control project scams were exposed in the Philippines, and there have since been countless communities impacted by typhoons and floods. As of August 2026, there were nine consecutive days of monsoon rain that triggered landslides across the country.

If these environmental issues are not addressed, it leaves the Filipino people displaced or dead. Our environmental issues can be prevented!

At “Lupa Ay Buhay: The Environmental Issues in the Philippines,” we will learn what is happening in the Philippines, what are the causes for these issues, how this is relevant to Temple students, and what we can do together! Join us on Tuesday, September 29 from 6-8pm on Temple campus to dive into this conversation and take action together.

🗓️ Tues, September 29
🕕 6-8PM
📍 Location of the venue will be announced closer to the date

On August 22, Kuya Raul was forced on a flight headed to Louisiana and transferred to Adams County Correctional Facility in Mississippi without notification to his family. He is now over a thousand miles from his family and community that has been supporting and fighting alongside him.
Tanggol Migrante Movement Philly stands with Kuya Raul and all migrant families, and we call for the end of deportation and detainment of migrants. Bring Kuya Raul Home!

The Philippine Consulate General in New York (PCGNY) has made promises to release Assistance to National (ATN) funds to Kuya Raul and to prevent his transfer. Due to their inaction, Kuya Raul has been taken away from New Jersey with no aid from the PCGNY. We are seeing Filipino nationals being failed by their government, both at home and abroad. In these moments, it is the mass movement who steps up, creates change, and emboldens the migrant community to fight for their own rights and freedom. Please join us in supporting Kuya Raul and all Filipino migrants.

We need to raise $5,000 by August 31 to ensure flight and travel expenses are covered for the family and community visiting Kuya Raul in Mississippi.
❤️ Venmo: @MigranteNJ with the payment note “flights”
❤️ Continue to donate to the family’s GoFundMe at tinyurl.com/DonateKuyaRaul

This summer, members of Anakbayan Manhattan, Anakbayan Philadelphia, and Anakbayan Queens joined Anakbayan USA's 2026 exposure trip to the Philippines to experience the true conditions of the toiling Filipino masses and contribute to the organizing work of our kababayan back home.

Throughout the month, we lived and worked alongside members of urban poor and peasant communities in Quezon City, Nueva Ecija, and Quezon. We learned the everyday struggles and aspirations of the Filipino people in the face of joblessness, land-grabbing, demolition, inflation, and the encroachment of U.S.-led war. We witnessed firsthand the conditions which force more and more of our kababayan to move abroad—just like our families did—only to experience further exploitation and neglect from the Philippine state. We learned firsthand the primacy of land in the lives of Filipino peasants—especially as the Philippine state maneuvers to steal and sell out these lands to U.S.-based companies and the U.S. military under Pax Silica.

We witnessed the unwavering strength of the National Democratic movement—the resolve to perserve, unite, and advance the struggle through all hardships. We are fired up to bring these lessons back to the Northeast, especially as we forward our Cerberus Out of the Philippines, Hanwha Out of Philly, Justice for Filipino Caregivers, and Defend Migrants campaigns. Stay tuned for more details about upcoming reportbacks, where we'll share more about our experiences and lessons from this exposure trip.

This exposure trip is a victory for our overseas movement, especially as we pass four months since the massacre of the Toboso 19, including our beloved Lyle Prijoles and Kai Sorem. Even in the face of these fascist attacks, we boldly proclaim that it is not just our right, but our responsibility as overseas Filipinos to go home, to learn from and serve our people. We call on all Filipino youth in the Northeast to heed the call to return to the Philippines, to link our struggles in the diaspora to the struggles of our kababayan back home, and equip ourselves with the iron resolve to fight for a genuinely free Philippines! by @anakbayanphilly

🚨UPDATE: Kuya Raul has been located and is in Mississippi. More details to come as they arise 🚨

‼️SURFACE KUYA RAUL, FREE KUYA RAUL, END FAMILY SEPARATION‼️

Raul Raagas, known as “Kuya Raul”, is a 63-year-old Filipino immigrant from Cebu, Philippines who was detained in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Now, his family can’t find him through the ICE locator. Tanggol Migrante Movement organizations believe he may have been transferred to a different facility out of state, despite the Philippine Consulate General promising the Ragaas family that they would advocate to keep him in New Jersey near family. His disappearance from the system comes just days after his court hearing.

As the Trump administration intensifies its mass deportation campaign through its 2,000 a day detention quota, other Philippine nationals across the country have been subject to the Consulate’s neglect such as Kuya Nestor, “Tatay” Loreto, Ya’akub Vijandre and Kuya Jonathan — all of whom have been detained with virtually no help from their local consulates or the Embassy in D.C.

We call on Senen T. Mangalile, the Philippine Consul General in New York, to resign for his blatant inaction in helping migrants in crisis.

Like all families enduring separation, Kuya Raul deserves to be with his wife, Janet, and two children.
