🕯️ Yesterday evening, Filipino community and solidarity allies from New York and New Jersey convened a vigil at the Philippine Consulate General in New York to commemorate six months since the massacre of 19 people in Toboso, Negros Occidental. Community members and organizations also gathered for a vigil in Philadelphia. In these six months, there has been no accountability from the Armed Forces of the Philippines, who President Marcos Jr praised for indiscriminately firing onto this community.

Despite all efforts to diminish the lives of those killed and the efforts from the Negros 19’s community and loved ones to seek justice, the mass movement against the fascist US-backed Marcos regime continues to grow, embracing the legacy to fight for freedom from exploitation and repression in the Philippine countryside, especially with the U.S.-led Pax Silica initiative threatening the land and livelihood of Filipinos across the archipelago.

We across BAYAN-USA Northeast hold firm in demanding justice for our beloved Negros 19, and continue to condemn all fascist attacks against the Filipino people and their interests for land liberated from the ruling elite. We commemorate this Filipino American History Month and Peasants Month with the memory of Lyle Prijoles and Kai Sorem who chose to go home to learn and be with the most exploited and oppressed.

On September 15th @bayan.usa.ne & @anakbayanphilly will present "PALAYAIN! The Filipino People's Fight for Peace" to commemorate the 35th anniversary of the people's victory ousting U.S. military bases from the Philippines.

Afterwards, we'll share reflections & discussion and attendees can learn how to support the campaign for "U.S. Out of the Philippines".

On August 22, Kuya Raul was forced on a flight headed to Louisiana and transferred to Adams County Correctional Facility in Mississippi without notification to his family. He is now over a thousand miles from his family and community that has been supporting and fighting alongside him.
Tanggol Migrante Movement Philly stands with Kuya Raul and all migrant families, and we call for the end of deportation and detainment of migrants. Bring Kuya Raul Home!

The Philippine Consulate General in New York (PCGNY) has made promises to release Assistance to National (ATN) funds to Kuya Raul and to prevent his transfer. Due to their inaction, Kuya Raul has been taken away from New Jersey with no aid from the PCGNY. We are seeing Filipino nationals being failed by their government, both at home and abroad. In these moments, it is the mass movement who steps up, creates change, and emboldens the migrant community to fight for their own rights and freedom. Please join us in supporting Kuya Raul and all Filipino migrants.

This summer, members of Anakbayan Manhattan, Anakbayan Philadelphia, and Anakbayan Queens joined Anakbayan USA's 2026 exposure trip to the Philippines to experience the true conditions of the toiling Filipino masses and contribute to the organizing work of our kababayan back home.

Throughout the month, we lived and worked alongside members of urban poor and peasant communities in Quezon City, Nueva Ecija, and Quezon. We learned the everyday struggles and aspirations of the Filipino people in the face of joblessness, land-grabbing, demolition, inflation, and the encroachment of U.S.-led war. We witnessed firsthand the conditions which force more and more of our kababayan to move abroad—just like our families did—only to experience further exploitation and neglect from the Philippine state. We learned firsthand the primacy of land in the lives of Filipino peasants—especially as the Philippine state maneuvers to steal and sell out these lands to U.S.-based companies and the U.S. military under Pax Silica.

We witnessed the unwavering strength of the National Democratic movement—the resolve to perserve, unite, and advance the struggle through all hardships. We are fired up to bring these lessons back to the Northeast, especially as we forward our Cerberus Out of the Philippines, Hanwha Out of Philly, Justice for Filipino Caregivers, and Defend Migrants campaigns. Stay tuned for more details about upcoming reportbacks, where we'll share more about our experiences and lessons from this exposure trip.

This exposure trip is a victory for our overseas movement, especially as we pass four months since the massacre of the Toboso 19, including our beloved Lyle Prijoles and Kai Sorem. Even in the face of these fascist attacks, we boldly proclaim that it is not just our right, but our responsibility as overseas Filipinos to go home, to learn from and serve our people. We call on all Filipino youth in the Northeast to heed the call to return to the Philippines, to link our struggles in the diaspora to the struggles of our kababayan back home, and equip ourselves with the iron resolve to fight for a genuinely free Philippines!

Raul Raagas, known as “Kuya Raul”, is a 63-year-old Filipino immigrant from Cebu, Philippines who was detained in Elizabeth, New Jersey. Now, his family can’t find him through the ICE locator. Tanggol Migrante Movement organizations believe he may have been transferred to a different facility out of state, despite the Philippine Consulate General promising the Ragaas family that they would advocate to keep him in New Jersey near family. His disappearance from the system comes just days after his court hearing.

As the Trump administration intensifies its mass deportation campaign through its 2,000 a day detention quota, other Philippine nationals across the country have been subject to the Consulate’s neglect such as Kuya Nestor, “Tatay” Loreto, Ya’akub Vijandre and Kuya Jonathan — all of whom have been detained with virtually no help from their local consulates or the Embassy in D.C.

We call on Senen T. Mangalile, the Philippine Consul General in New York, to resign for his blatant inaction in helping migrants in crisis.

Like all families enduring separation, Kuya Raul deserves to be with his wife, Janet, and two children.

The Haqooq-e-Khalq Party (HKP) and the Anti-Imperialist South Asian Alliance (AISAA) invite you to an evening of political discussion at Haraz Fishtown in Philadelphia, from 6PM-9PM.
Across South Asia, a wave of popular mobilization is happening. Students, workers, farmers, and journalists are confronting states that increasingly govern through authoritarianism. In Pakistan, Kashmir, and in India, these movements share a common architecture of debt, and militarization. The devastation of Gaza and the repression facing movements in Iran belong to the same discussions around uprising, and the South Asian diaspora and communities standing with Palestine and with Iran are our closest allies in this work. We are honored to welcome Dr. Ammar Ali Jan, an organizer, and a leading voice within Pakistan’s left, as our featured speaker. He will be joined by organizers from AISAA addressing conditions in Kashmir and India. Many of us follow events back home with urgency yet feel we hold little power to shape them. We live within the country whose foreign policy, arms agreements, and lending conditions define the terrain these movements operate on. It is imperative therefore to close the gap between these struggles back home and in the diaspora.
