The Sartory Billard × CronotempVs CT12 is a fun watch to keep revisiting, and there’s always more there is to discover, so here is a 10-photo macro walkthrough of what is probably one of the most interesting dials I’ve had the opportunity to photograph. @sartorybillard x @cronotempvs There were only 30 CT12 watches made, and with the owners given an enormous amount of freedom to customize their watches, no two necessarily look alike. This particular example belongs to @watchsymmetry, whose inspiration came from outer space, starting with the beautiful meteorite dial center. Given his love for titanium, it should come as no surprise that the outer circular-brushed blue section is titanium, with a pad-printed sapphire layer sitting above it. And that sapphire layer is one of the few visual elements shared across the CT12 series. The dial architecture uses a bright red 12 o’clock numeral surrounded by a thick white border, accompanied by numerals at 2, 4, 8 and 10 o’clock and an outer railroad-style minute track. The printing is impressively crisp, but I particularly like the dimensionality created by printing onto a transparent sapphire component sitting above the titanium below. If you’re a regular to this page, you’ll know how much I enjoy seeing brands experiment with sapphire for more than just crystals, whether that is MING, Andreas Strehler, De Bethune, Holthinrichs, or, in this case, Sartory Billard. Separating the meteorite and titanium sections is a substantial brushed metal ring, and even this relatively small component gets a neatly polished bevel along its edge. The same design language is repeated around the tourbillon at 6 o’clock, helping tie together what could otherwise have been a fairly complicated collection of materials, colors and textures. There is another lovely little detail underneath the 12 o’clock marker in the form of the Sartory Billard nameplate. It has a brushed upper surface surrounded by polished bevels, with the brand name engraved and filled with an enamel-like paint. Again, it is a tiny component that could have been executed much more simply, but receives the same attention to finishing as the larger elements around it. by @analogdisplay

More Habring Josef content today, this time taking a very close look at the beautiful thermally blued hands, the amazing dial design (courtesy of @onehourwatch / @lyr.watch) and the crisp pad printing on the lacquer base. @habring2 has done a remarkable job bringing this watch to life and every detail feels well considered and cohesively designed. And while the movement may not rival all the haute horology indies that are all over Instagram, I personally love the engineering behind this movement and the jumping seconds time display, and the fact that you can get so much creativity and watchmaking expertise for what I believe is a reasonable price. #habring2watches by @analogdisplay

It was at the height of pandemic, September 2020, when I met with Stefan and Ev Kudoke in Dresden to pickup my special “Flieger” piece. I saw this watch in their atelier pre-pandemic, but it was sold to an acquaintance from Germany. Fast forward to summer of 2020, and I was planning family trip to Prague. I reached out Ev and asked her if we can meet in Dresden for lunch. She casually mentioned that the watch I loved is still available. Before she could finished her sentence, I said yes. In September 2020, I took an empty train to Dresden to meet Stefan and Ev for lunch and pickup the unique Kudoke flieger. Last pic shows my passport. I left it on the train when I got off Dresden and with Kudoke’s help we tracked it down to Berlin police station. I went there, picked it up and reached back to Prague at 2AM in a student’s bus. Three lessons: Watches are purely emotional objects. There are genuine friends in watch industry. Always check your passport before exiting plane/train. Here is a close look at the Caliber A11S that powers Habring Erwin Tuxedo. It is the jumping seconds version of the A11 platform that first appeared (I think?) in the Felix in 2014. The A11 is @habring2 first ‘in-house’ movement, and it was a practical response to ETA and Swatch Group tightening parts supply, since Habring² had previously built much of its catalog around heavily reworked ETA Valjoux 7750 and 7760 architecture. Instead of treating that as a crisis, Richard and Maria Habring used it as the moment to create their own equivalent base calibre, developed around the same kind of robust, serviceable logic that had defined Richard’s career since the IWC days. In the Erwin, that base movement becomes the A11S, a 30mm hand-wound calibre with a 48-hour power reserve, 4Hz beat rate, KIF shock protection, tangential fine adjustment, 21 jewels, and a reasonable amount of hand finishing that includes polished bevels, decorative grinding, and perlage. It is not a showy movement, and it is not trying to compete with haute horlogerie finishing for its own sake. It is much more aligned with what Habring does best: take an interesting complication, make it reliable and usable, and package it in a watch that feels built for long-term ownership. #habring2watches #habringerwin by @analogdisplay

Let’s start off this week with some Habring, and the Erwin Tuxedo in particular. This watch uses a deadbeat, or jumping seconds movement, so the seconds hand ticks (yes, like a quartz watch) instead of sweeping, which I think fits the “a brand for owners” them. And while I personally love my Josef, the Erwin’s dial is incredibly photogenic. The applied Breguet-style numerals were designed by Lee Yuen-Rapati (@lyr.watch / @onehourwatch), and his typography gives the watch most of its personality while staying cohesive with the rest of the @habring2 lineup. In this footage, you’ll see that the dial reads clean and deliberate, and the voluminous sculpted hands put on an incredible show and manage to catch just the right amount of light at every angle to stay perfectly legible. #habring2 #habring2watches by @analogdisplay
