BREADFEST 2026 THIS SUNDAY 10/18
Time: 10AM - 2PM
Location: @avenueportland

We are so excited to be back for the third year in a row--this time with more goodies than ever! Of course we will have plenty of our flagship soft pretzels, and we will have lots of our crunchy pretzel chips as well. This year we are also adding some focaccia breads, sweet brioche tarts, and maybe some other sweet treats!

Thank you @breadfestpdx for putting on the best bread event in Portland. See you all soon! 🥨 🩵 🥨 taken in Avenue Portland by @anamikavial

Part 3: ITALY Nauders → Silandro → Eppan → Trento → Bieno → Feltre → Cison di Valmarino → Treviso → Grado

The last country on our journey was Italy, beginning in South Tyrol and ending along the coast. I think South Tyrol was my absolute favorite part of the trip. The landscape was stunning, with vineyards, apple orchards, and breathtaking Alpine views as our route took us high into the mountains.

This was also where the land of beer gradually gave way to the land of Aperol spritzes. We started seeing more beautiful laminated pastries, increasingly filled with pistachio and gianduja, alongside focaccia, cheese, and cured meats. Throughout the entire trip, one thing remained constant: Europe's love for bread, even as the styles and traditions changed from region to region. As a baker, it was fascinating to see how bread and baked goods reflected the places we passed through.

Our bike ride ended in Treviso, where we caught a train to the coastal town of Grado to enjoy the spectacular Mediterranean Sea. After two weeks of biking through the Alps, it was a lovely change of pace to trade mountain roads for the seaside.

Thank you for following along on our journey! I came home with a camera roll full of memories and plenty of inspiration. Stay tuned to see how my travels continue to shape the little bakeshop. by @anamikavial

Part 2: AUSTRIA Füssen → Nassereith → Landeck → Nauders

Austria is so beautiful: pristine white houses with red rooftops, colorful painted facades, rolling farmland bordered by lush green forests, and frothy white rivers. The towns felt almost storybook-like, with elaborately painted buildings, flower-filled balconies, and little village centers tucked into the mountains. We passed through Nassereith, Landeck, and Nauders, each with its own character, but all surrounded by that dramatic Alpine scenery.

There were cows, horses, goats, and even some pigs—and during a stop in the village of Pfunds, we caught the very tail end of the Almabtrieb, when locals bring their animals down from the mountaintops for the changing of the season.

Austria is also the birthplace of strudel, and I was thrilled to sample many of them, slightly warmed, served alongside whipped cream, naturally. Having left the Bavarian pretzels behind, I felt inspired to sample a few other options, such as seeded and cheese varieties. While they didn’t quite beat the buttered version, they were still delightful enough that I’m adding them to the lineup. Look for cheesy or seeded pretzels at my next pop-up! by @anamikavial

Part 1: GERMANY Munich → Augsburg → Schongau → Füssen

As promised, here’s a little photo dump from the incredible three-week trip I took with my husband through the Alps. We followed the old Roman road, the Via Claudia Augusta, by e-bike from Augsburg, Germany, all the way to Treviso, Italy.

Bavarians really do make the best pretzels. They’re light and soft, a little crunchy on the outside, and have that perfect, unmistakable pretzel flavor. I couldn’t get enough of the buttered variety—a local favorite so popular that bakeries have machines that literally inject butter straight into the pretzels.

The landscape was gorgeous and green, populated by many cows all fitted with their bells. The cheese was delicious, the meat was delicious, and I can never get enough of the Bavarian Brotzeit (pretzel, Weißwurst, sweet mustard). I'll never grow tired of Germany's love affair with bread-so refreshing!

Two nights, a whole lot of pretzels, tired feet, and a very full heart. 🥨✨

So grateful for the incredible community that came together this weekend—from fellow vendors and customers to the organizers and crew who make it all happen. Thank you to @portlandnightmarket for having us and for always creating such a fun, welcoming event.

And a big thank you to everyone who stopped by our booth, grabbed a pretzel, chatted with us, and supported my little bakeshop. Feeling so lucky that I get to do this.

See y'all soon! 🩵 by @anamikavial

The bakery will be taking a short break this summer.
I am going abroad to the German and Italian Alps in search of inspiration, new flavors, and new ideas to help bring this bakery to the next level. And don't worry, I'll be back in October with some awesome events and lots more pretzels. Until then, you can follow me as I document my journey, and perhaps you will be inspired too.
See you soon 🥨🩵🥨 by @anamikavial
