The OG birthday song and the cutest bunch to bring it to life. 🥹🤍 One thing I always want to do at the end of every series is shoot a video with everyone to celebrate everything we've learnt together. While I haven't been able to do that every month, I'm so happy we got to bring it back for our June Series. This time, we added a fun challenge to the mix and filmed it as a one-shot. My classes are all about having fun while training, but I also love sneaking in little experiences like this. This time, it meant beginning to explore movement for the camera - learning to make space for each other, finding your cues, and discovering the little choreography behind the choreography: who gives way, who enters next, and how everyone works together to keep the whole thing moving. So full credit (and full claps 👏🏽) to everyone in this video. You all absolutely smashed it. See you at the next one. 🤍 July Series begins this Saturday. DM for more info. 📍 @studiomaya.chennai 🕓 4 PM – 6 PM 📷 @kaybee_gram by @ananyashankar
Breaks aren't easy. More often than not it doesn't just involve unwinding and relaxing, it often comes with a gamut of emotions and thoughts of guilt, self doubt and a constant feeling of uneasiness/restlessness. And the easiest thing to do is to find comfort in that discomfort, and that creates the perfect excuse to delay the restart. . Manase is about self love, finding it, finding your way back to it and most importantly for us, finding somebody or a bunch of somebody's to walk you through it. . So, for all of that and your gorgeous music, thank you @amritramnath. . There's a reason we're showing you only so little of this choreography because with this little preview we're very happy to announce that we're going to be hosting our first collabo workshop this month. Details coming soon💃💃💃 by @ananyashankar
What is my go-to music choice? I have been that confused teenager who wanted to be cool in school, so forced myself to listen to English music only. I have been that confused "need to only party" girl in college and listened to A LOT of EDM music. And hey, there are surely still parts of me that are just evolved versions of those Ananyas. ⠀ ⠀ And then 2020 happened. And then my classes happened. This year for me has been about embracing my comforts. Not trying to play this role/card of being cool. ⠀ This is me. My playlists are all filled with all the Tamil songs now - old and new. They make me happy, they make me want to stand up and dance and it is me. ⠀ Don't get me wrong, I love me some english tunes of varying genres but embracing this side of me has been hard but to me is important. ⠀ ⠀ So, my folks from class now know that they can expect the random-est song choices and love them as much as I do and I love you all for it. ⠀ ⠀ This was one of the first choreographies I did in 2018 and expanded on it this year. I love this song!!! I am loving that my body wants to have fun dancing after a long long time. So, if you like what you're seeing and want to learn choreographies for songs like this but more importantly - if there are comforts you want to find, or parts of you that you want to embrace with some dancing - hit me up. I have new batches of my classes starting in 2 weeks :D . . Song - Huu Lala - Minsara Kanavu - I do not own this music and do not intend infringe copyright. Our work comes from a sense of belonging, and from our love for a city that has never stopped gathering cultures, stories, colours and people. The kovakkai still grows in the wild, albeit sparsely - a little reminder to keep finding pieces of Madras in the city, in the things we make, and to always keep a Jannal open to all that this city has to offer. Happy 387th Madras Day! ❤️ by @ananyashankar
The August Series is here 💃 Four Saturdays. One Choreography. The idea is simple: instead of rushing through multiple choreos, we spend four classes with one piece. It gives you the time to settle into the movement, build confidence, and learn at your own pace. Every series ends with a class video. It's our way of celebrating everything we've learnt together while also exploring movement for camera. Miss a class? I hold at least one compensation class every month. My biggest update....this month onwards we get to call @studioloco.chennai our new dance home and i couldn't be more excited ✨ We begin this Saturday, August 8th. Details about timings are on the poster. DM for more information 💟 by @ananyashankar

A story of two long-time friends, some long-due untangling, some very many words and very many breaths. ✨🥹 Please come watch this play on Sunday, May 10th, at @afmadras as a part of @poochus_productions oda KISS festival. Thank you guys, for always giving us a place to perform, a stage to return to. ❤️ (linktree matter in bio) I sometimes struggle to find the balance between the personal and the fiction. With anything; life, itself. This time I had such familiar and comforting company in creating this piece around the weight and worth of adult friendships. ✨🥹🫂 Its been revelatory, touching, and a lot of laughs to explore life through this play, with friends and together-performers of well over a decade. Holding all the many versions we know of us three in fondness, love and sooo much respect ❤️🥹@ananyashankar @lavyshankar @theshankarsisters. Thank you for making this happen for us love n hugs n kizzez. 🥹🫂 Been a while, letss goooo!!! 🥹🥹❤️❤️🫂🫂✨✨💃🏾💃🏾💃🏾 2pm show link - 10th May Sunday https://allevents.in/chennai/kiss-day-3-group-c-2pm-tickets/80001879191766 6pm show link - 10th May Sunday https://allevents.in/chennai/kiss-day-3-group-c-6pm-tickets/80007930826334 https://linktr.ee/vinithramenon by @ananyashankar

Meet the lovely humans from my evening batch & our shyam representative (the plant) ✨ This video was meant to be just for us - something to hold onto. But when I saw how it came together, it felt like something worth sharing. Because what you see here isn’t perfection. It’s effort. It’s nerves. It’s joy. It's support. It’s a group of women from completely different walks of life - doctor, lawyer, freelancer, research, marketing, sales, finance - coming together simply because they love to dance & want to put the effort in to learn and train ♥️ I’ve always wanted to be part of a community. I didn’t think I’d get to build one of my own. But because of them - and everyone who continues to walk into my classes - I can now say we’ve created a space that feels safe, supportive, and full of joy (and a lot of sweating & confusion, ofc😌). One of those days where I can say this with the biggest smile - I really love what I do :) 💃🏾- @acupofteainhand, @viva_aishwarya, @janani_0820, @mahimasamant, @dr.aamina_hussain, @_amritha.varshini, @areyouhavinganyfun_ 📍- @studiomaya.chennai by @ananyashankar
Lavy and Annie have been dancing since I can remember. Since they can remember. If you must know anything about them, know this. Its hardly ever about the perfection of steps and its almost never about any algorithm. It’s all heart, just like they are. Like their song selections are. All of yesterday was an 80s playlist including warm up and cool down :D Their attention to detail is on each person in their classes, not on their choreography. They are most invested in you. Are you having a good time? Is your injury okay? Do you want a breather? You want to change the step to something that works for you-change it! Its about you, only about you. Thats why every Annie Lavy class is a like a mix of dance workshop and pajama party energy. You gotta be there to know it ❤️🧿✨ Multiple reels of dis choreo can b xpected thx. 😘❤️ PS. MY KUDUMI IS ITS OWN PERSON I LOVE HER 😂😂 by @ananyashankar
