(I wrote this in June) : I sweep the floors everyday yet my toes remain covered in tiny grains of sand carried in on the tiny body of my not-so-baby baby from days spent playing at the beach until 6pm. My best friend moves to another country next month, but on this day, in this moment, we still live in the same town and spend the afternoon under the shade of the trees sharing glasses of cold white wine and sweet milk chocolate. My algorithm knows I’ve just turned 31 so the little robots that live inside my phone work overtime pushing me ads for Botox and promises of endless youth, unaware that my stubbornness spans generations of headstrong women and that I have chosen to welcome aging with open arms. The little robots are hungry for my attention and money but I refuse to feed them. It is 6am and I am on an airplane to go meet my best friends in a big city. The same friends that have held my hands and my heart for the past 15 years, the same ones I entrust to hold them for 70 more. Around my neck are two gold necklaces, one engraved with the name of my lover, the other with the initials of our son. I begin this year of life with more questions than answers but find peace and solace knowing that it’s not about finding the answers but instead, it’s about being inside the questions together. by @andlanguage
