The Migrant Collective Art Exhibition: Sensory Cartographies of Belonging. Remembering, Experiencing, and Imagining Our Lives as Latina Immigrants is open until Thursday, Sept. 10 @ The Little Gallery, 6th Floor, Art Building, University of Calgary Main Campus.

I'm incredibly grateful for having been part of this project. Having lived ten years in Canada, I didn't know what to expect coming to these creative workshops- I just showed up. In community with other incredible and talented latinas, I realized that the feelings that I've experienced as a latina immigrant are part of the process. Sometimes we get caught up in our own minds that we forget all the blessings that we do have. 💜

Immigration is both condemned and romanticized. It can be filled with grief due to the loss of family, friends, culture, geography, and routines, but it can also be expansive, nurturing and full of possibilities.

For many, immigrating is a way to make economic means and have a better life while for others, it’s the only way to escape the severe conditions back home. Each migratory experience is unique, but it’s also universal. All immigrants have different stories and backgrounds, but our shared experiences connect us. 🥹 This project and exhibition is a testament to that connection. by @andrea.jvarez
