Beyond excited to share that our film No Swimming is an official selection at the Defy Film Festival in Nashville! @defyfilmfest Aug 21 & 22

This will be my second time screening a film at Defy and I’m honestly so excited to be coming back. Last year I had the pleasure of attending Defy where they screened my award winning film @sardinethefilm and after experiencing the festival it quickly became one of my very favorites. The energy, the community, and the way it supports bold independent filmmaking really stands out. They are absolutely incredible!!

Can’t wait for people to finally see @noswimmingthefilm on the big screen at Defy. We are so proud of it!

Death gazes upon her reflection to find life grinning back at her.

Echo - curious and vibrant - and Silence - unconscious and subjugated - embody the living and dying essences of one soul. In exploring the rules placed around living in a physical body, they strip away layer upon layer of conditioned expectations, revealing what a momentous yet worthwhile undertaking living - really living - is. Embracing the unity of these twin halves allows the soul to discard the constraints of a systemically fearful society and swim down to the limitless unknown, the deep end of life itself.

I feel things before I understand them, film them so I can know my own mind and my own body.

Gently Misplaced 🐛

@andreadratch captured by @dspcapture @dspgram

Andrea Dratch is a filmmaker, actor, and performance artist based in Colorado. Her work is organic and instinct-led, feeding her creatively in a natural way rather than following structure. She explores life, death, fantasy, shame, and animal instinct through the body as a living, changing vessel of energy and emotion. Her work moves between raw physical experience and inner worlds, where instinct and imagination blur and the body leads before thought.

A grieving therapist reawakens through an unexpected connection with a struggling client, but her inability to hold a professional line with him threatens their relationship.

Reggie, a disengaged therapist left reeling from the death of her brother, finds her status quo upended by a new patient Winston who suffers from a debilitating fear of life. Their lives quickly become entangled when an inexplicable intimacy blooms between them. After their connection becomes impossible to navigate, they decide to see a therapist for their therapist-client relationship. These two strange people whose dynamic might be even stranger may be just what the other needs to wake up to life. #findyoursenseofdirection

Experience Andrea Dratch live at Cucalorus 32 in Wilmington, NC
Nov. 19-22nd.

Five hours.
One body.
Countless worries & fears.

I’m proud to bring DIRT DON’T HURT, my five hour durational work, to Wilmington, North Carolina a festival that has spent more than three decades making space for independent film, performance, experimentation, and artists willing to make strange things.

For five hours, I’ll carry the physical weight of what strangers are ready to let go of.

DIRT DON’T HURT accompanies my experimental film NO SWIMMING. @noswimmingthefilm

Grateful to Cucalorus for giving this work a place to get dirty, breathe, and exist.

Come experience me. Come leave something behind.

You don’t have to feel good today.

If you fall
into that dark hole again,
fall.

I’ll crawl in after you.

I’m not afraid
of the dark.

I love it there.

And I love you there, too.

We don’t have to climb out yet.

But when we do,
We have to be very careful because
birds literally poop everywhere.
