The exhibition ›Mutation Methods‹ by Andreas Palfinger and Aysin Bahar Sahin investigates objects as constructors of
reality, as points of departure for spatial transformation and architectural design. It creates space for unorthodox design
methods in which everyday objects are read as carriers and generators of realities, deconstructed, and artistically-
architecturally mutated.
Everyday Objects and the Archaeology of Realities: At the center is the idea that objects are not neutral, but contain and
enable meaning, history, and social realities.
The works are conceived both as a methodological proposal and as a spatial argument – contributing to the discussion of
how objects and architecture actively create our realities and lived worlds.

›sculpting time‹ exhibition at @pier59studios in New York 🤍
had the honor to show two works there:
An adapted version of ›Biomorphic Tectonics‹, originally developed for @viennadesignweek in 2023, and ›Data‘s Inferno‹, created in collaboration with @beritgilma earlier this year.

Look, they fabricated the impossible! 🧬
I’d say with @foldsdesignstudio I found the perfect partner in crime to execute my designs.
For last weeks exhibition at @unfoldseries in Navi Mumbai the stairs were fabricated by 10 people in only 10 days! I learned a lot from their process.
—
Planned is a 14feet (4.2m) version for an upcoming project. Stay tuned!
Congratulations to Krishna @foldsdesignstudio , Anishka @inertial_influx and every single person in their dedicated team, with their mission to establish parametric and computational design in India.
—
Big thanks to @amir.m.asht @prattinstitute @prattgaud for the feedback during the design process! <3

What if the human body became a starting point for design?

In these works, Andreas Palfinger @andreas_palfinger takes inspiration from human anatomy, transforming familiar forms and structures into something strange, speculative and new.

Sharing our ›Abandoned Airport Competition‹ proposal,
by Andreas Palfinger & Aysin Bahar Sahin //
The brief called for a structure to observe nature on the site of an abandoned airport in Iceland, which includes bird-watching from different elevations as well as life underwater.
_
We are proposing a hollow, 65m long monolith which sits at a 5° angle in the ground. One end cantilevering 25m and the other end being submerged in the ocean.
A 360° opening provides continuous views to the environment in different elevations, from 0m to 6m height. A frameless window provides underwater views at the lower end.
_
The project is playing with the notion of the „oblique function“, coined by Claude Parent and Paul Virillio in the 60s, and it represents a direct reference to the bunker on the beach analogy. @claudeparent_architect
_
Although monolithic from the outside, structurally the project is closer to a bridge: along the central axis a 65m long truss enables large cantilevered spans and uninterrupted openings along the whole perimeter. The structure is clad with stone panels.

From the archives: Table design as exhibition podium for my project ›A Populist’s Guide to: Shaping Democracy‹, created back in 2019.
—
Created during my time as graphic design student in Vienna, class for Design and Narrative Media @narrativemedia.design (formerly Graphic Design). Thanks for the guidance Oliver Kartak, Katharina Uschan, Erwin Bauer and Dennis Elbers.
—
The project got exhibited three times in Vienna, at Graphic Matters in the Netherlands and at Museum of Communication in Berlin, and was featured in Novum World of Graphic Design, international issue 4.20

›crack house‹ / alpine residence
—
An idea that started as sketch in 2024 while living Beijing (daydreaming about my home town in the Austrian alps); continued in 2025 when back in New York – where I got more familiar with underground structures and the notion of ›the crack‹ in architecture theory; and now in 2026: working through hundreds of iterations while living in London.
One side effect is developing an obsession with cracks in the ground and with the typology of retaining walls (since then documenting retaining walls while hiking in the alps, in Japan, Hawaii, Utah or China)
—
About the notion of ›the crack‹ in architecture: is it a scar, a space that can be occupied, a territory for informal activities? Neither fully inside nor outside established systems, the crack occupies an in-between condition where realities meet and overlap. Often associated with marginal, informal, or underground conditions, the crack provides room for activities and identities that exist beyond conventions.
Cracks and New York: As industry retreated in the 1970s, abandoned warehouses and factories opened up cracks within the urban fabric. Existing between obsolescence and renewal, these spaces allowed informal activities, artistic experimentation, and alternative communities to take place.

Happy to share, we were one of the 7 finalists for the ›Claude Parent Prize for Transgressive Architecture‹ in Paris, organised by the Claude Parent Archives.
—
Me & Aysin Bahar Sahin submitted several collaborative works over the last years (developed between New York, Beijing and London) and it was an honour to be selected from 130 international submissions (also being by far the youngest team).
Big thanks to the jury (full list on slide 5), which included two Pritzker prize winners Shelley McNamara (Grafton Architects @graftonarchitects ) and Jean Nouvel @ateliersjeannouvel , as well as Wolf D. Prix @coophimmelblau
—
Attending the gala in Paris was a pleasure, especially meeting other nominees.
Congratulations to @husosarquitecturas
—
Recommending everyone to look into Claude Parent’s work and theories – with the ›Oblique Function‹ influencing our own projects in many ways. (slide 6-8)
