This Saturday should have been my fifth wedding anniversary. Instead, it marks the unfortunate ending.

Most people don’t share about endings. I’ve been there. This time: the experience is too important to keep to myself. I’ve got a lot to say and trying to find all the right ways to say it - in the right timing.

This is the first glimpse into my world this year. It’s been upside down, sideways, backwards, 1000mph and suspended under water all at once it seems. For anyone who’s ever had to endure a divorce, which is - I was told - even harder than death, this is for you, too.

I ask for your light. Not your judgment. I’ve got enough of that. #Merci 🙏🏽

So, so adorable to get to talk to the middle school girls at @mariettapal1’s Power Hour Club along with my @rhozetaomega sorors. My question to them: “What do you think are your gifts to this world? What do you have to contribute to help make the world a better place?” While I know they’re still figuring life out (aren’t we all?!) - their answers were lovely. Some said their kindness. Others said their friendship. Amongst all the other talents and gifts they could have named, that’s what many chose.

I think that’s telling in today’s world - especially after seeing stories like what my friend @adriannemarie19 wrote yesterday about that woman being followed around by the police when she was just trying to enjoy a stroll by the river. This is a world full of judgment. Stereotyping. Archetypes. Ill will. Us vs Them. It’s refreshing to see young ladies like this so centered on the positive things they can contribute to society in spite of it all - like their kindness and friendship. We do need so much more of that. (My little dog Nitro is quite good at it 💗🐾).

🍁🙌🏽🙌🏽 Every woman above 40 will appreciate this win the most: I’m OFFICIALLY DOWN 11.6 lbs SINCE LAST DEC! I’ve been doing this October #ChampionStepChallenge with @rhozetaomega. My new little neighborhood has what I call baby-mountain-hills - so the steps are full of steep inclines - which, it turns out, is great for keeping the fluffiness whittled down! I was doing 5K steps/day and now I’m upping it to 6K. Not bad…

Of course, my fab @e2mfitness group taught me to keep an eye on my eating window, drink more water (still terrible at that part though 🌵…though slowly getting better), eat lean proteins and veg more, etc. So all that helps.

Attended the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office | @cobbsheriff Community Briefing tonight and appreciated the opportunity to hear about the work, partnerships and new initiatives taking place across our community.

It was especially great seeing my Divine 9 family represented as members of @RhoZetaOmega Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha and @ChiGammaGamma Chapter of Omega Psi Phi shared how they are supporting Breast Cancer Awareness 🩷 and Domestic Violence Awareness 💜 — not only through education and conversation, but through meaningful service to individuals and families in need. 💗💗💗 Big shout out to my new friends at @lovingarmscanceroutreach - so impressed by the work they’re doing for ALL cancers - including breast cancer. @livesaferesources represented so well for the domestic violence side, too. Awareness around both is so needed 🙏🏽🙏🏽💗💜

We also heard important information about resources available to domestic violence survivors, along with updates from the Sheriff’s Office on new technology, facility improvements, training, community partnerships and programs.

With so much new technology being introduced — including AI-enabled tools, RFID technology and drones — I appreciated the opportunity to ask about cybersecurity and how the Sheriff’s Office is working to safeguard these systems as technology continues to evolve.

And congratulations to the newest graduates of the Cobb County Sheriff’s Office Citizens Academy! 👏🏽 It was wonderful seeing so many members of our community complete the program and deepen their understanding of the work happening behind the scenes.

Community awareness matters. The more we know about the resources and services available, the better equipped we are to connect someone with help when they need it.

💚💻 Emerald for a Cause: imagine a kid at McDonald’s, trying to use the WiFi to do their homework but he and his family can’t really get any food while they’re there. Simple tasks we take for granted, some find overwhelming - because they lack the connectivity and devices to do it. This org, @inspireduatl, is working to change all that.

Since its inception in 2020, Insidedu has served 12,000 learners - kids and adults alike - who are now able to move forward in life and overcome tech obstacles - thanks to the laptops, workshops, space and more they provide.

At their Gala this Friday where over 60 community partners and 200+ guests gathered in support, their CEO Richard Hicks said: “We have to eliminate barriers We are the heroes,” and “we have to lift our community up.”

Love it. Thank you @hrjasenhayes for the invite - and for so excellently facilitating workshops and laptop gifts via Inspiredu to two orgs I love this year: @circlescobb and @aspiringcommunityentrepreneurs. 🖼️ Could not let the weekend go by without getting to this @asherald exhibit at the @highmuseumofart. Learned that she purposefully (of course) makes her subject’s skin grey because she loves old black and white photos. And, furthermore, that she just loves to see the American story told from the black perspective. I call it one thing: absolutely beautiful.

This year is moving so fast - I just can’t let it go by without acknowledging this beautiful soul - Jas! AND Mara. Two of my new favs. I met them both through @circlescobb. Mara and I served as what we call “Allies” (a friend, basically) to Jas - and Jas is what we call a “Circle Leader” (someone who’s taking on a new leadership role in their own lives - setting amazing goals to better their own financial status and prospects for the future).

When I tell you this gorgeous gal has done some AMAZING things over the past two years, you wouldn’t believe it! She’s changed jobs, been in school, faced a million challenges head on AND is getting married (to one truly awesome guy)! On top of all that, she’s done it all while showing true leadership amongst her peers - spearheading the idea for what we’re calling our “Evictions Playlist” - to help people understand what to do and know what their rights are before, during and after an eviction. And now, thanks to @podiumatl, that incredible video series is up on YouTube - to help the 144,000 people (12K/mo) facing evictions in Atlanta every year right now: 🎥 bit.ly/evictionsplaylist

I am constantly in awe of what this young lady’s doing and am so proud to call her and Mara my new friends - along with my gal @barbara.b.garner (who’s in #LeadershipCobb right now) and so many other wonderful people I’ve met on the Circles Cobb board, as allies and Circle Leaders alike.

🎓🎉🎉 Cheers to you Jas and the “Lucky 7” for graduating from the program recently! Things will only keep going up from here.
