One of my favourite projects so far this year!!

I bring you PLAYSCAPE (2022) spanning 1280 square feet on four sides of three giant shipping containers. I was commissioned to create this mural activation in the gardens of @assemblyparkvmc here in the city of Vaughan.

Located right next to @daveandbusters this vibrant free flowing piece is inspired by interconnection and the significance of cause and effect. Using layers of geometry influenced by urban architecture and video gaming. This mural not only depicts the levels and dimensions to structural possibilities but acts as a landmark that shows us gathering, community and connections through the use of dynamic shapes and geometric forms. Playscape is meant to draw and bring people into the gardens like an urban playground for viewers to enjoy.

This project was made possible through the collaboration with @quadrealcareers @artpluspublicplus @assemblyparkvmc

shout outs to @dgreco_1 @voidflux @robertjohnpaterson you guys were all so amazing to work with.

Thank you so much 🙏🙏❤️❤️

Happy Friday! Today marks the official completion of this giant new mural activation for @assemblyparkvmc out in Vaughan, Ontario. Just under 7000 square feet, and in a matter of four weeks we were able to complete this giant piece.

I learned a lot during this experience and I’m super glad to have both @leylandadams & @oblskone help make this dream possible!! They worked extremely hard during the month and this mural wouldn’t have been possible without their tremendous support ❤️❤️

Thank you so much to everyone at @quadrealcareers for having us and the amazing support from both @assemblyparkvmc and @vaughanfilmfestival throughout the project.

❤️❤️🙏🙏🙏

Futura (2021) a vibrant and innovative mural activation by Andre Kan serves as a significant landmark at The Assembly Park Studios in the City of Vaughan. His geometric shapes build upon one another creating a sense of interconnection, and reminding us how we are all connected in this world. Through the significance of cause and effect, this energetic, multilayered landscape is his abstract interpretation of the city's unique future - a high-spirited dynamic blueprint of various forms coming together. Unified, bold, and in harmony, this architectural piece depicts a number of structural components and signifies the importance of creating a foundation that can be built beyond itself.

As we begin to re-emerge from this horrible pandemic, these last two years have taught us about the struggles of isolation. And as we transition into a new reality, we must remain hopeful of better days in our future. Like a community fueled by cultural diversity, Futura reminds us of the bigger picture, and that "we're all stronger together for a brighter future".

This project was made possible through the collaboration with QuadReal and The Assembly Park Studios. Thank you.

A little behind the scenes from my recent mural for IKEA Canada’s 50th anniversary Open House! @ikeacanada

From the initial painting process to seeing the finished mural become part of the 90s-inspired installation, it was great to see everything come together.

Sharing a closer look at the artwork, some behind-the-scenes moments and highlights from the event.

Big thanks to @ikeacanada and the Edelman team for having me be part of the celebration 🩷

Celebrating 50 years of IKEA Canada!
@ikeacanada 💗

Had the opportunity to bring some 90s nostalgia to life with a custom graffiti-inspired mural for IKEA Canada’s 50th anniversary Open House in Toronto.
Drawing inspiration from 90s street art, bold colours, abstract shapes and playful movement, the piece combines my geometric style with the energy of the decade.

Big thanks to IKEA Canada and the team at Edelman for bringing me on board for this project!

Finished piece from this weekends jam!✌️
@scarboroughmuralfest

Pieces like these are always fun to do! One day, No sketch, fully improvised and just go for it.

Got set up around 1 and banged it out in six hours.
Such a fun day painting with the homies, enjoying the weather, meeting the locals, listening to music, and just vibing out in the zone.

Great to see some folks I haven’t seen in a while too!
One of my favorite days of this summer ☀️

Many thanks to @leylandadams for having me out on this event! You the man 🙏🙏

Thanks to the sponsors @culture_to @cnibfoundation @castlefielddesign

and thanks to @franniepotts for helping and getting me quickly set up! You rock!

“Patternized” (2023)

Revisiting this project from a few years back at @humberlakeshore @humbercollege, created in collaboration with @humbergalleries and students from Humber’s Media & Creative Arts programs.

“Patternized” (2023) is a series of digital murals installed throughout F Cottage, bringing together my exploration of architectural space, geometric forms, typography and interconnectivity.

The work also incorporates program codes developed in collaboration with Humber students, weaving their typography into the larger compositions and connecting the murals back to the creative community within the building.

Really nice looking back at how these pieces transformed the spaces — from walls and entrances to an entire staircase. 🙌
Many thanks! 🙏 @cheshire_grin @humbergalleries

Typography designs inspired by Natalie Grakovski (@natgraks), Rosana Ijiro (@nana.can.create), Victoria Carone (@vcarone_art) & Khushboo Patel (@khwshbu)

Finished this new one in downtown Toronto, at Queen West & Dovercourt ✨✨

Originally painted a few years ago with @start_streetartoronto and @amploveone, and recently gave it a fresh revamp after it got hit with a few tags.

Always a pleasure painting in this neighbourhood!👌

If you’ve got a wall that could use a mural, send me a message or email me at andrekanart@gmail.com
🙏🙏

Lots of exciting projects in the works—stay tuned.

Painted this last month during my time at @casa_lienzo @hashtaggallery and I finally had some time to put together a reel recap.

The archway was such an interesting feature to work with, and it was fun adapting my abstract geometric style to the architecture of the room. I also installed a few of my paintings alongside the mural, helping tie the whole space together while creating a welcoming environment for new artists staying at the residency.

Many thanks to @instagraemeluey for having me. Missing Mexico City a lot! ❤️🙏

Agradecimientos especiales a @perlishtrish , @fredy.guevarart y @jspindola_ por el apoyo. taken in Sala Forum by @andrekan_
