Enlivened by his interest in spacial structures and interconnectivity, Andre Kan's paintings serve as excitable blueprints for a possible reality. Each work depicts the artists' signature imaginative building blocks that converge and begin to build upon each other and strengthening each other towards an ever transforming space. Kan's structures are substantial and complex but not yet anchored - they float suspended in his psychological space. In this way Kan's buildings remain a playful proposition for the viewer not yet tied to a specific place or function. With his dynamic formations, Kan propels us towards an ever optimistic future where new connections and constructions have yet to materialize.

His current work investigates the architectural interpretations that respond to our ever advancing society, and suggests what 'possibility' means through self discovery. Examining what mark making and its properties mean, as well as the significance in cause and effect, is important here. Kan's psychological structures depict change and evolution of space, while also questioning the fundamental nature of being and the world that encompasses it.

Andre Kan is a Toronto based painter. Since graduating from the Ontario College of Art & Design University in 2014, he continues his creative pursuits as an Artist, Muralist, Photographer, Curator, Producer, and Musician. His paintings have been showcased throughout Canada with permanent collections in the U.S and China. His murals can also be seen internationally including London, Spain, Portugal and Taiwan.

Electrical boxes don’t have to be plain. We loved working with the @yongestclair BIA, beautifying the city, one electrical box at a time! 🎨🖼️👩‍🎨

Birthday 🎂 picnic moments: as a way to celebrate my bday in my new home we had a lil picnic at the park. I am forever grateful to find my tribe here in Toronto. As an adult is it often hard to find friends, build community, and to integrate into groups. Somehow I have attracted the best Toronto has to offer! Big THANK YOU for all the birthday wishes, blessings, and conversations. Community is about building and growing together. As I continue to grow and anchor myself here I feel confident in the foundation that has been built. I tried catching moments yesterday but I was too locked in. Shout out to @jovenluciano for catching some good Fisheye shots. Special thanks to my partner @yu.taikocat for supporting the party! Thanks to all my friends! Warmly, your art friend Rayos Magos🧙🏼‍♂️🙌🏽⚡️✨🤘🏽

The best art galleries don't always have walls 🖼️

The Yonge + St. Clair BIA commissioned 3 local artists to bring their vision of Midtown identity to the streets adding colour and creativity to corners that often go overlooked. Each artist explored the culture and identity of Yonge + St. Clair through their own lens, uncovering the unique character of this evolving neighbourhood. 🖌️

Every electrical box tells a story through the lens of each artist:

🎨 @helena___cyc - inspired by our ravines, heritage architecture, and thriving businesses

🎨 @katelyn.illustrations - inspired by stickers, local culture, and neighbourhood pride

🎨 @andrekan_ - inspired by connection, shared belonging, and cultural diversity

Take a walk and see them for yourself:
