Naming of cats (for Kirky)

We recently lost Kirky but when he entered our lives I wrote this poem for his naming ritual.

Marrai’gang was late (from D’harawal Language)

@Andromeda_falling #Dharawal #weather #firstnations

Notes:
The following trees are from D’harawal Language:

Kai’arrewan - Acacia binervia,
Boo’kerrikin - Acacia decurrens,
Weetjellan - Acacia implexa,
Lilli Pilly - Acmena smithii,
Burringoa - Eucalyptus tereticornis,
Miwa Gawaian - Telopea speciosissima.

Time of Marrai’gang
April to June
Season indicators
* Bana’murrai’yung – wet becoming cooler
* Quolls seeking mates
* Lilly pilly ripens
It’s the time of year when the cries of the marrai’gang (quoll) seeking his mate can be heard through the forests and woodlands, and when the lilly pillies ripen on the trees.
When the lilly pillies start to fall, however, it’s time to mend the old, warm cloaks from last cold season or make new ones and begin the yearly trek to the coastal areas.

A bit of education

In Australia we are having a poorly conducted royal commission into antisemitism. As opposed to some peoples bigotry towards some Australians subscribing to the Jewish religion.

“Semitic refers to a major branch of the Afroasiatic language family, as well as the ancient and modern peoples who speak these languages. [1, 2]

The Semitic Language Family
In modern scholarship, the term is primarily used in linguistics. The Semitic language family spans North Africa, East Africa, and West Asia, encompassing over 460 million speakers. [1, 2]”

The commissioner said recently the ABC and SBS journalists could do with a bit of education, because their truthfulness in reporting the genocide being conducted by the state of Israel against Palestinians (Semites) in Gaza is unfair.
