What would Ana Mendieta taste like?

Earth, moss, softness, decay.

Inspired by Ana Mendieta’s relationship with the body and the earth, we created a small edible landscape, built in layers and meant to be disturbed.

As we dig in, the landscape slowly changes. What was once whole becomes a trace.

To taste it is also to make it disappear.

A special evening in Chengdu.

Thank you to the TForM team for collaborating with us at A4 Art Museum, where we came together to create a food-led experience in dialogue with artist Qiu Jiongjiong’s work for the exhibition opening.

So happy to see art, food, and people come together in new and unexpected ways.

And wishing everyone a very Happy Mid-Autumn Festival. 🌕

WHAT WOULD ART TASTE LIKE?

This time, inspired by Qiu Jiongjiong’s
A New Old Play / 椒麻堂会,
opening at A4 Art Museum, Chengdu
on 25 September.

Numbness, heat, sweat — and somehow, aliveness.

Sichuan pepper hits first with its aroma, then comes the numbness.
It tingles on the tongue, bringing heat and sweat —
an intensity that almost borders on pain,
yet somehow leaves the body feeling vividly alert.

In Sichuan, people have long embraced this sensation.
Much like the characters in A New Old Play,
who live through hardship and uncertainty —
finding humour in heaviness,
and carrying on amid the absurd.

We translate what we see
into something we can taste.

What does an artwork taste like?

We started with Anish Kapoor.

A dish developed in response to the artist’s visual language—translating colour, form and sensation into something that can be tasted and shared.

Andthou. Catering explores food as a bridge: between art and everyday life, between people, cultures and conversations.

Sometimes we begin with an artist. Sometimes with an object, a memory, or a place.

Through artist-inspired food, intimate gatherings and collaborative events, we are interested in what can happen when we experience one thing together — around a table.

This is where we begin.
