50 Years ago today Boardman & Tasker climbed the stupendous Himalayan, West Wall of Changabang. The two guys drove from Manchester to India in a van and their ascent transformed what people thought was possible in such lightweight style. This is my photo of the late Brendan Murphy during our 1st ascent of the North face in 1997. #boardmantasker #changabang #himalayas #exploration #alpinestyle

20 year anniversary of my first book ‘Learning to Breathe’ being published.
A few to be signed today, tired forearms I bet:-)
This book won five literary awards and was translated into German, Italian and French. A big publisher in USA was keen too… but they said I would have to re write the Barnsley dialect sections - bit too much ‘thee, thou n thine’ for the Yanks maybe?!

Bits n pieces from the summer memory vault.
Started out looking for hard moves.
Then savouring Wales, north, mid then south
Ponies & ale, memories of cutting coal.
Pembroke, the best, never in doubt.
The flowers, the fruit.
1st September. Oh shit rain, almost forgot😂

Back in the steep terrain game after a period of vertical. Amazed how my body has performed over the years, often when asking it to do very different things in a short space of time.

30 + years ago, 8000metre peak in May, 8a sport in October. More recently Ski guiding in winter, 8b in spring. Falling off last move of 8b+ then Scotland in winter. Backwards and forwards to Patagonia or Alaska, making alpine style first ascents, and then ground up trad E7s on grit.
We can only work with the body we have, obviously. I guess I got lucky to some extent. I’ve never really suffered at altitude. On one family ski holiday, at the local bouldering wall, I managed 3 one armers, on each side l (in my 50s!).
If it was a car I was selling, I wouldn’t claim low mileage, or one careful owner 😂 Maintenance & Servicing is more regular these days. But still, even after a summer of socialising (a bit too much!) the human body surprises me in a pleasant way. And I’m so thankful for that🙏🏻
