Yesterday's tools.

Yesterday was the start of boarding the walls in the new workshop. The two ends walls are now done. Back next then front. Ceiling insulation and boarding will file that.

The Erbauer track saw from @screwfix_uk is definitely one of those tools I wished I bought earlier. The supplied tracks only extend to 1.4m, but the @evolutionpowertools_uk track at the right extends to 2.8m. Having both set up and available made fitting boards down much easier.

The 12V @boschprouk jigsaw made cutting the notches around the stud-work so easy. I love this jigsaw so much that I gave my 25y old Bosch corded jigsaw to my men's shed.

The countersink drill bit in my Bosch 18V drill was a recommendation from Mark @startmaking2022 . So much quicker to use than a drill and separate countersink. And the 4x50mm Ulti-mate screws from @phillipsscrewcompanyuk that I won at @makerscentral a couple of years ago are now gone. Definitely one of the better screws I've used.

And last but not least, it's my favourite, the @metabo_uk 12V PowerMaxx BS BL Q driver. Although I'm quite annoyed as I found out on the weekend that this form factor is no longer available! Which is a shame as I was actually looking to buy a spare before this one breaks. The new version uses the slide on batteries which makes it 200g heavier.

So yesterday I visited the Bentley Wood Fair.
It was a really interesting day. I had some great conversations, bought a new (to me) spoon gouge, and had a go at steam bending some ash strips with Andy from @totallysteamed .

It's definitely something I'd like to do some more of.

First off, yes, I need a hair cut and beard trim.

Now that's out of the way.

Thank you to @acesheds , and specifically Wayne, Rowan and Nathan. The latter two put this up in about 5½ hours.

Externally it's 17'1" x 8'3" (5.2x2.5m). Once it's insulated and boarded I'll get about 16'6"x 7'8" (5.03x2.34m) so 126.5 sq ft (11.8 m²). That's considerably bigger than the 59.5 sq ft (5.46m²) in the current incarnation of the Tinkerage.

Obviously there is much to be done.
Insulating, boarding out, painting externally and internally, power, flooring, etc, etc, before I can start moving tools in.

And exciting time!

Analogue CAD without the C. PAD, maybe? Paper aided design? Pencil aided design?

Will it all fit? 16'4"x7'6' (5m x 2.3m) floor space.

Some tough decisions have already been made. There will be more to come.

Tinkerage 2.0 has to work better for me than the original Tinkerage.

I'm hoping to upgrade some of my equipment, if funds allow, and add a CNC.

Plus I'm going to build in good lighting and ceiling, and possibly wall mounted, camera rails. Yes, I am looking to restart Tales from the Tinkerage.

It's just over two years since I posted a progress post on my tiny pencil collection. I've been running two pencils in parallel and both have joined the wall today. And fresh pencils had been promoted to my desk and notebook. Although they are both partially used.
Last time @philmakesthings asked if I was aiming for ten. My answer was yes, but that I'd probably not stop there. This collection will keep going. It shows progress.

Popped back up to see the finished sculptures this afternoon.

All absolutely fabulous.

Unfortunately for me the carvers had gone off on a shopping trip. I did have a lovely chat with one of their hosts though.

I'm looking forward to seeing them installed in their final home.

Rumours that I may also have brought home three more pieces of their offcuts to turn into something have not been greatly exaggerated.

For the last 4 days, and for another 2, a Sculpture Workshop has been running locally to me. It's part of the European Sculpture Path.
Four amazing wood artists from the across Europe have been turning some locally grown oak trees that fell down into some very large sculptures. The first few pictures were taken on Saturday morning and the rest were taken this afternoon.

It was great to watch them work. I'm not sure I'll be introducing chain saws into my love spoon carving.
And it was even better to chat to some of them.

I'll probably go back on Wednesday, their last day, to see how things have progressed.
