When I took this portrait of Andy Goldsworthy on the hill near his house I wanted to have him looking to one of his works with in the same low, but strong side light I'd worked with photographing the work of art - the natural light was coming from behind so we needed some front fill flash - this picture was produced entirely in camera and on medium format film. I deeply enjoy photographing his artwork in different countries and have particularly enjoyed his incredible contribution to arts and culture in his home country Scotland. There is an interesting set of his woks @jupiter.artland near Edinburgh and lots of lovely books on his work available online. by @andygoldsworthyfans

Grass laid on a gravestone
Becoming calmer as I worked around the edge of the stone
One side at a time
Wind returning as I finished
Blowing the grass off the stone

Returned the following day
Calm to begin with but the wind soon picked up
Placed old nettle and dock stalks on top of the grass to hold it in place
Seemed unlikely that I would finish
However
The sky darkened but didn’t rain (as was forecast) and the wind dropped
Cold, calm and overcast
Perfect

"Rivers and Tides" is a 2001 documentary film directed by Thomas Riedelsheimer about the British artist Andy Goldsworthy, who creates intricate and ephemeral sculptures from natural materials such as rocks, leaves, flowers, and icicles. The music was composed and performed by Fred Frith and was released on a soundtrack, Rivers and Tides (2003).
