What’s the price we pay for staying in a place we already know we shouldn’t be?

Do we let go the moment we feel that way? Or do we keep coming back, hoping that maybe, this time, things will be different, only to find ourselves facing another disappointment?

What’s harder? Holding onto what is familiar, even when it causes us pain, or finally letting go of everything we know and learning how to live without it?

Well, we had a story to tell about that in our demo for Influence Academy.

A huge thank you to @melvin_gatica_bachata for teaching us during the academy how to tell stories through our dancing. Stories that may not even be ours, yet somehow become ours for those few minutes on the dance floor. To find the headspace, to feel the emotions, and to truly live a story through our movement.

And of course, kudos to @natalia.living.art for believing in the vision and making the demo more graceful than I could have wished for. Thank you for taking the risk of dancing to a different kind of song than we’re used to. Although at least one of us speaks the language 😜

I couldn’t be happier with how it turned out, or more grateful for the opportunity to perform this in front of all the amazing dancers who came to the academy from all over the world. I learned a lot from all of you. 🫶🏽✨

“The flame kissed the tip of a trembling hand
I lied my sin
I understand
Each puffs a deal, each drags a cost
Every breath reminds me of what I lost…”

The feeling and the MAGIC that @bachata.influence creates is unmatched. Soft yet passionate, controlled yet unhinged. Every day I keep falling in love with it even more❣️

A song that always hits differently. Not a bachata, and not something you would expect to hear on a social. But a song that cracks you open, a song that holds a story and a load of emotions that beg - no, demand to be expressed through movement ❤️‍🔥

Thank you @djpjotter for this treat 🥹🫶🏻 And of course many thanks to @mr_dj_sergio for creating such a space at @bachatafactorynl where all styles are welcome and we get the freedom to dance outside of the box 🙏✨

⭐️⭐️⭐️ Life comes to a full circle ⭐️⭐️⭐️

It all started with spending literally hundreds if not thousands of hours (yes that much) of watching their dance videos, to attending their festival workshops and now to getting selected into the academy to be officially certified to teach @bachata.influence . Everything I learned in dancing is mostly from @melvin_gatica_bachata and that is before I even attended the academy.

This week has been immense in terms of deep diving into the techniques of Bachata Influence and also how to express and bring emotions through dancing. Cuz dancing without emotions are just movements. Having so many amazing dancers joining from all over the world speaks volumes of how much impact @melvin_gatica_bachata have created and it’s only getting bigger every second as we speak.

Forever grateful to Melvin & Gatica to inspire so many people like me to take dancing seriously and fall in love with this style. They have really poured their heart out to build this amazing community and academy. And also thanks to the @cyril_lenoir , @marcymarilyn & @emilien.tehina.bachata for bringing so much energy and fun during the week at the academy. You guys are the best 🫶🏽

And last but not the least, it was beyond amazing to have @natalia.living.art also being there to go through this intense yet amazing week with me. I don’t think the academy would’ve been the same without you. You have grown into such an amazing dancer in such a short time. And also such a kind person to let me nap rather than forcing me to practice or to walk with you to the supermarket 👀 taken in Barcelona, Spain by @aneek_7

Another magical dance moment with @aneek_7 ✨this time at the @latinflowacademy social last Saturday 🩷🖤

I feel like every dancer has an ideal in their minds of what a perfect dance should be like. We all have our favourite dance cocktail, a flawless a blend of ingredients that come together in an ideal ratio in one moment.

🌟 Let me share with you my personal secret recipe (in a nutshell):

1/5 Presence (in your body, in the moment, that’s the bare minimum and foundation for everything)
1/5 Musicality (I’m not talking about just hitting the accents, iykyk)
1/5 Freedom of expression (only possible with a solid foundation of presence and connection, to be able to open up emotionally & physically)
1/5 Technique (not for rigid control, but to create a clear channel for the creative flow)
and of course, last but not least:
1/5 Connection (compatibility with your partner on the energetic & physical levels, as well as the 4 above-mentioned elements and ability to feel, listen, communicate together with each other, co-creating a story in the moment)

When all of these elements come together, I feel like something just clicks and unlocks and you find yourself in a space where nothing exists but the present moment. Your mind shuts up for a second and you are just there, experiencing an amalgam of sounds, lights, sensations, emotions. Just feeling alive and co-creating magic together with another human being.

I must say, this particular moment came veeery close to that ideal I hold in the back of my mind. 🥹❤️‍🔥
So grateful for such moments and also for @bachata.influence being the perfect kitchen to cook up such magical cocktails in.

So, guys, what are your recipes for a perfect dance?
