🙏🏽💜Gurudev Sri Sri Ravi Shankar ji, officially inaugurated our Ayurveda book, “Unveiling Health, Happiness and Longevity : A primer on Ayurveda” at The Art of Living, LA Center yesterday. (#LinkInBio)

🙏🏽The book is Co-authored by Ashish Pandya, VP Education, Shankara Naturals and I (I am an #AyurvedicDoctor Level Certified from #KeralaAyurvedaUSA). It is illustrated by Maria Radloff; foreword is by Director, Kerala Ayurveda Academy & Wellness Center and our revered Dr J, Vaidya Jayarajan Kodikannath.

The first copy was at the Art of Living Book Store, it is now being published through Art of Living (there will be copies at Boone this winter) and it is available for purchase

I am so delighted that Dr. Uma Purighalla, a Kerala Ayurveda, USA @keralaayurvedausa Ayurvedic Practitioner student shared that her article exploring GLP-1 therapies through an Ayurvedic lens has been published in the peer-reviewed journal Explore.

She is a board certified internal medicine physician who has been practicing for 30 years. In addition to internal medicine, her background encompasses family medicine and integrative wellness. Through Purighalla Wellness, she also offers specialized consultations combining conventional medicine with Ayurvedic principles, lifestyle changes, nutrition, and yoga therapy. She just told the team about this, thanking us (her faculty and admin - including Vaidya @drjayarajan, @drsheenasooraj, @drprincyprasadkaa, Dr Kamya, Vrinda, Sunitha ji, @kathymoore66, @shradha_jr et al) for encouraging her to spread the word about Ayurveda. I was so glad to be her academic mentor. We are very proud of all our students.

💕🌈We were delighted to be at the PFLAG Regional Conference, “Love Out Loud” yesterday, with our amazing PFLAG NorCal and Nevada Chapters.

Anu Gupta @anew_gupta, from our Chapter spoke captivatingly with the incredible and brilliant Amaya and Lucy from @pflagfremont on “How to grow a diverse Chapter; Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs”. Thank you, Krista and Elizabeth for attending the Summit, and Jamie and others for attending online.

Thank you to Drew, @pflag_fresno, our Regional Director for pulling off our first Regional Conference with @pflagsf’s @robertcostic, @_natemueller and Sandy - you all literally brought the National Conference to us with so many amazing sessions, opportunities to learn, interact with PFLAG chapters and other LGBTQ+ supporting organizations, and to network. Thank you! 💕

Thank you to Nadine for a moving land acknowledgement. We really enjoyed attending @rkenanarun’s session on the @lgbtasylumproject, Veronica, @pflagoeb’s session on Safety, Lainie, @pflag_trivalley and Jessica, @pflagsjp’s session on School Board Advocacy and many others. This Saturday, October 10th, PFLAG families and allies from across the Mid-Pacific region meet at Skyline College in San Bruno for Love Out Loud, our regional summit. 🏳️‍🌈

Here’s the session lineup:

Honoring Matt’s memory today - Trigger warning / content warning - murder, hate crime

Never Forget: On today’s date, Matthew Shepard, a 21-year-old student at the University of Wyoming, was brutally attacked and tied to a fence in a field outside of Laramie, Wyoming and left to die. On October 12, Matt succumbed to his wounds in a hospital in Fort Collins, Colorado. @mygayday @mattshepardfdn

We are delighted to present at the summit on, “How to Grow a Diverse Chapter: Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs” - we are thrilled that Anu Gupta, our Chapter Leader and Amaya Wooding, President and Lucy Shen, Secretary, PFLAG Fremont/Tri-Cities @pflagfremont will present this session jointly.

🪷About the session - Building a diverse and intersectional community is always easier said than done. If your chapter or board lacks diversity, this is the talk for you! We’ll share experiences from the Asian-American ethnoburbs of San Ramon, Danville, and the Tri-Cities, covering common pitfalls, ways to reach people outside our bubbles, and real-life scenarios.

🪷About the Summit: 16 PFLAG chapters across Northern California and Nevada will be in one room on October 10th. The Mid-Pacific Regional Summit brings chapter leaders and partner organizations to Skyline College in San Bruno for one day, under the theme “Love Out Loud”. The agenda is practical, delivered by our amazing colleagues and partners: chapter safety planning, working with local school districts, growing chapters that reflect our communities, state legislative advocacy, a session on LGBTQ+ mental health with the Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative, Yale School of Public Health. And our dear friend Kenan Arun, ED, LGBT Asylum Project @lgbtasylumproject will talk about standing up for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers...

Chapters across the region (and nation) face many of the same questions.
How do we keep members safe?
How are we useful to a school board?
How do we grow past the same twenty people?

Some photographs from the Himalayas from my Father, late Brig MM Sharma’s collections. He was a mountaineer, and truly in love with the mountains, their mythology, mysticism, sustainability, people, flora, fauna. He wrote many books,

“Through the Valley of Gods” (for which he won a President’s Award and the Fellowship of the Royal Geographical Society)
“Of Gods and Glaciers”
“Valley of Flowers”
“Mystery of Rupkund” … and a book about Tibet

He had fascinating stories - a Sage, a Rishi directed his Battalion to go through a different pass because he predicted there would be a landslide at the one they were going to traverse. The Rishi saved their lives. He said he knew my Father, who was also a Sage in the mountains in a previous birth - he knew what tea he liked and called him, “Premi Bhakt”…Also the time a Rishi said Das couldn’t harm animals in his jungle and Dad said he never would. He asked Dad to fire a tracer bullet at a deer anyway, as a demo… it took a parabolic path away from the deer.

And the Shaligrams he collected, the Bhojapatra he found.

The stories his brother Officers related, from Leh, Ladakh, Nepal and when he was Commanding Officer at Harsil, above Gomukh, with a love for kheer… the sorties they flew…the exercises they conducted. He was a brave Gorkha soldier, who commanded 3 Scouts.

We have so many memories from the time, from our childhood holidays spent there.

There is one photo we had, at some stage - labelled, “Daddy” from the “National Defense Academy” perhaps - Dad later trained cadets in Jungle Warfare, Navigation Skills, Logistics and what have you.

At 91, Daddy strung together photos to write a book and kept faded, precious ones, @sharmaanjali1964, Mom and I sorted them… I kept a few. Miss you Daddy, these are the days we honor our ancestors, Pitru Paksha. As a refugee you had a tough life - yet you were the most brave, positive, enterprising, funny, enthusiastic person whose life was devoted to service and encouraging others. Your first gift to me was the Bhagwad Gita. I carry your legacy forward. Love you, be content, till we meet again.♥️⛰️
