💕🌈We were delighted to be at the PFLAG Regional Conference, “Love Out Loud” yesterday, with our amazing PFLAG NorCal and Nevada Chapters.

Anu Gupta @anew_gupta, from our Chapter spoke captivatingly with the incredible and brilliant Amaya and Lucy from @pflagfremont on “How to grow a diverse Chapter; Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs”. Thank you, Krista and Elizabeth for attending the Summit, and Jamie and others for attending online.

Thank you to Drew, @pflag_fresno, our Regional Director for pulling off our first Regional Conference with @pflagsf’s @robertcostic, @_natemueller and Sandy - you all literally brought the National Conference to us with so many amazing sessions, opportunities to learn, interact with PFLAG chapters and other LGBTQ+ supporting organizations, and to network. Thank you! 💕

Thank you to Nadine for a moving land acknowledgement. We really enjoyed attending @rkenanarun’s session on the @lgbtasylumproject, Veronica, @pflagoeb’s session on Safety, Lainie, @pflag_trivalley and Jessica, @pflagsjp’s session on School Board Advocacy and many others. 🌈Join us for the Mid-Pacific Regional Summit on Oct 10th, “Love out Loud”!
Register at - https://midpacific.pflag.org
Tickets are $15/- for in-person and $5/- for virtual registration

We are delighted to present at the summit on, “How to Grow a Diverse Chapter: Stories from the Asian-American Ethnoburbs” - we are thrilled that Anu Gupta, our Chapter Leader and Amaya Wooding, President and Lucy Shen, Secretary, PFLAG Fremont/Tri-Cities @pflagfremont will present this session jointly.

🪷About the session - Building a diverse and intersectional community is always easier said than done. If your chapter or board lacks diversity, this is the talk for you! We’ll share experiences from the Asian-American ethnoburbs of San Ramon, Danville, and the Tri-Cities, covering common pitfalls, ways to reach people outside our bubbles, and real-life scenarios.

🪷About the Summit: 16 PFLAG chapters across Northern California and Nevada will be in one room on October 10th. The Mid-Pacific Regional Summit brings chapter leaders and partner organizations to Skyline College in San Bruno for one day, under the theme “Love Out Loud”. The agenda is practical, delivered by our amazing colleagues and partners: chapter safety planning, working with local school districts, growing chapters that reflect our communities, state legislative advocacy, a session on LGBTQ+ mental health with the Yale LGBTQ Mental Health Initiative, Yale School of Public Health. And our dear friend Kenan Arun, ED, LGBT Asylum Project @lgbtasylumproject will talk about standing up for LGBTQ+ asylum seekers...

Chapters across the region (and nation) face many of the same questions.
How do we keep members safe?
How are we useful to a school board?
How do we grow past the same twenty people?
A day together is how those answers travel. Join us in person! Or join us virtually from anywhere!

“I’m motivated to vote because of the constant attacks on immigrants and the LGBTQ+ community—especially trans and nonbinary folks…It’s incessant! We NEED equal protections.” —Anu Gupta, President of @pflag_srv

At PFLAG, we support LGBTQ+ people by showing up for one another, strengthening our communities, and helping build a future where every person is treated with dignity and respect—and voting is a critical part of that work.

“No LGBTQ+ child should have to navigate identity alone”.

In their Episode 6, Brownish Parenting interviewed Anuradha (she/her) from our chapter about how South Asian families can move from silence or fear to safety and trust. Thank you for elevating our voices.

“When homes are emotionally safe, children don’t have to choose between culture and authenticity. They can belong in both.

Support starts with listening.
Belonging starts at home.”

This is something we have to prepare for. We cannot afford to wait until it becomes another epidemic or, in the worst-case scenario, another pandemic.

This is the first time many of us have witnessed something like this. Hundreds and thousands of people and animals have lost their lives, and the devastation is beyond words.

Some might argue that this is not the right time to talk about the animals. But we believe this is exactly the time to talk about them.

Caring for the animals who are still alive is important but our responsibility does not end there. The bodies of the animals who have lost their lives also need to be recovered, handled, and disposed of properly.

Many of these bodies are still lying in rivers, farms, and areas flooded by water. And when water itself can become a major source of contamination and disease, we cannot afford to overlook what is happening beneath and around it.

These bodies need to be recovered as soon as possible, not only out of respect for the lives that were lost, but also to protect the lives that remain.

We, as NGOs and volunteers on the ground, are doing everything we can. But we simply do not have the resources or funds to manage something of this scale alone.

THE GOVERNMENT DOES.

We sincerely hope this is not being overlooked.

Because this is no longer only about animals.
It is about public health. It is about prevention. It is about protecting every life that is still here.
