どのようなものを、手元に残したいと思うのか？

日本各地の工房を数多く訪ねる中で、私たちは、
土地に根ざしながら、その土地性だけに規定されないものに惹かれるようになりました。

日本には今も、大量生産の論理とは異なるかたちで、
ものづくりを続ける工房が数多く存在します。

けれど、手仕事であることだけが、そのものを意味あるものにするわけではありません。

En 1992 paraissait en France Artisan et inconnu, une sélection de textes de Soetsu Yanagi consacrés à la beauté et à l’artisanat japonais. Aujourd’hui, alors que l’artisan est devenu une figure plus visible, l’inconnu se retrouve dans des territoires particuliers où les savoir-faire continuent de se transmettre et d’évoluer au contact des ressources locales.

ANF invite des créatifs à porter leur regard sur ces territoires et à y imaginer des collaborations qui font dialoguer savoir-faire locaux et pratiques contemporaines.

Des rencontres qui dessinent un paysage contemporain de l’artisanat ancré dans des savoir-faire et des ressources locales, mais nourri par des influences multiples. by @anewframework

OBJECTS for Artisan et Inconnu

Plates, cups and spoons in various shapes and sizes

The work of @shuo_iwakiri draws on the subtle irregularities of clay and variations in shape and size within a single framework. Working in rural Kagoshima, he uses the tatara technique, pressing thin sheets of clay into plaster moulds. The resulting pieces have an organic geometry, with contours that follow the hand and lips and proportions suited to everyday use. Cream and beige glazes complement one other, bringing further variation to the collection.

Objects selected for Artisan et Inconnu, an ANF project with JNTO where we explore lesser-known territories, curate rare objects and develop unique techniques.

Japon, Artisan et Inconnu is a new initiative produced by ANF, where we explore lesser-known territories, curate rare objects and unique techniques, and invite creatives to develop new work with local artisans.

Over the summer, we visited Fukui, Tottori, Saga and Kagoshima with @jochengerner, @mintchuchuleather, @baptiste.meyniel and @mangermanger_mcyuki, in anticipation of a private evening unfolding this October at @halle_aux_grains_bras_paris.

まだ知られていない日本の土地を、そこに暮らし、ものをつくる人々との出会いを通して探るプロジェクト。
地域に根づく技術や知恵を訪ね、さまざまな分野のクリエイターと職人が協働する。そこから、新しいもの、場所、体験が生まれていきます。

その着想の源にあるのは、失われつつある手仕事を求めて地方を旅した、初期民藝運動の人々の姿。
「Japon, Artisan et Inconnu」は、土地に受け継がれてきた技術やものに光を当て、そこから新たな出会いと可能性をひらいていきます。

Working with Arita porcelain artisans @aritaporcelainlab, @baptiste.meyniel created a series of 40 unique vases hand-painted in gosu, a traditional cobalt-blue pigment.
A project led by ANF and produced with @kihara_collaboration, presented at Paris Design Week.

À l’occasion de la @parisdesignweek, ANF, @baptiste.meyniel et Kihara présentent une installation à TOUT EST CHAOS, une exposition de @pli_office.

Cette présentation met en scène 40 vases en porcelaine dessinés par @baptiste.meyniel et peints à la main cet été à Arita, Japon. Un film produit par ANF et @ulysses_o montre les gestes et techniques derrière les pièces finies.

Du 10 au 13 septembre 2026 à la @gaitelyrique.
